David Fincher and Sony turn to Tumblr for more "unofficial" Girl with the Dragon Tattoo marketing

When the first trailer for David Fincher's THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO "leaked" onto the internet this past Memorial Day, many of the web's savvier film writers quickly realized that the "leak" wasn't a leak at all, but part of a planned marketing strategy by David Fincher and Sony to help promote the upcoming film in a much less conventional way. (The fact is, studios don't allow leaked anything to get over a million hits on YouTube before finally deciding to yank it.) Today, that trend appears to be continuing with Tumblr.

/Film was alerted to a site called "Mouth Taped Shut" that at first glance seems to be a fan-made blog featuring all things related to Fincher's remake. But then you realize that it showcases stuff like the short behind-the-scenes video embeded below and it becomes pretty clear that no ordinary fan could've had access to stuff like this. It's a nice viral form of marketing though, for which I give it its due props. Anything to break monotony, right? You can check out the Tumblr site RIGHT HERE.
