Sound the alarms; the first trailer for The Purge: Election Year has arrived

02.10.2016

THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR aims to to reveal the next terrifying chapter that occurs over 12 hours of annual lawlessness sanctioned by the New Founders of America in order to keep the criminal element at bay. It’s been two years since Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge in THE PURGE: ANARCHY. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. As you can imagine, things don't exactly as planned, and you can glimpse the madness with the first trailer below!

THE PURGE had a bit of a flimsy premise, but it was Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey that kept the action grounded. I haven't gotten around to checking out ANARCHY yet, but I do like the fact they're attempting to cover different aspects of the annual Purge. Without having seen the second film, however, ELECTION YEAR looks like more of the same. In any case, this series seems to have gone the way of SAW in that we can probably expect a yearly entry until the films stop making money. Who knows? Maybe there's more to this one than meets the eye.

THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR will arrive in theaters on July 1, 2016.

The first one had a decent idea but was squandered by a poorly written script that resulted in a dumb film. The sequel was better, but still not worth *yawn* yet another one. I can see this franchise ending up being one of those "straight to Netflix" affairs in the near future.

Looks like The Purge is the new Saw. But I do hope they maintain the quality to be at least as good as the previous two movies.

Holy Shit!

Despite not having been a fan of either of the first two I was really wondering when the third one would be coming out and where they would go with it. I have to admit the concept is a stroke of genius even if the film itself doesn't look that much better or different from the first one. Whatever, this looks more like a Carpenter film than even the second one did and If nothing else that movie introduced me to Frank Grillo. Love thar guy and hope he get's a film worthy of his time.

The Purge has actually shaped up into a decent, low rent horror-action franchise, so I don't really mind that they are making more of these. The one thing I really like is that they are expanding the series as it goes along and not continuing to keep it small and centered. They've gone from a single house to the films being on the national level. They also have a good mythology growing with each film, which is nice. It's cool to see there being a conspiracy surrounding The Purge. I don't know

No disrespect to Jon Bernthal, but in a perfect world Frank Grillo would be The Punisher and no one else. Dude was born for that part.

The only reason not too have Grillo be the punisher is because he's already Crossbones in the Capt. America movies. Although, he practically played The Punisher in Anarchy.

Agreed I hope they do some really cool stuff with Crossbones in the next one because I still really regret them not getting him for the Punisher. And that's considering the fact that Bernthal looks fucking perfect.

They're not the greatest films, but they are damn entertaining and make you think just 'what if'.

IT's sort of ironic considering the fact that the villains are the people running the gov and a large portion of Trump's appeal is his anti-establishment cred.

Love the franchise

I'm getting the feeling that Trump would lead the country into this if elected.
