Sounds like Vin Diesel wants Rob Cohen to direct Fast & Furious 8

So Vin Diesel ended up not revealing who will be directing FAST & FURIOUS 8 with his next Facebook post, however it does kind of sound like Diesel wants Rob Cohen, his THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS and XXX director, to return to the series and helm the next entry. The actor also said Paul Walker always wanted Cohen to direct another F&F movie, and Diesel believes the filmmaker would bring the franchise back to its racing roots.

It is no secret that my good friend Justin and I have been very intensely discussing the trilogy, as we have dreamed it...

Although Vin Diesel was perhaps just feeling nostalgic, I wouldn't be surprised if he is actually trying to convince Universal that Rob Cohen should be behind the camera for FAST & FURIOUS 8. Personally, I'd rather see what a new director to the series would do with the next film instead of having Cohen helm another installment. I'm also not sure if the studio will want to give Cohen the keys to the franchise, since his most recent movies haven't been that great. What are your thoughts on Rob Cohen possibly being a contender to helm FAST & FURIOUS 8?

Vin Diesel can be seen next in Breck Eisner's THE LAST WITCH HUNTER on October 23, 2015, while FAST AND FURIOUS 8 is scheduled to open on April 14, 2017.

HA called it bitches, I mean come on it makes total sense for Cohen to come back. As I said a monkey could direct these movies & he needs another hit on his resume.

I like the first F&F movie, but Cohen hasn't made a good film in years. I have a hard time imagining what more they can do with this series anyway. I get the feeling that Fast and Furious 8 will have a sharp drop in box office from the previous installments, and might be the last film.

I am surprised it took this long for someone to suggest Cohen.

I think it's a good idea.

Back to the roots...

..no one gave a fuck about. Sorry but i never cared about the whole street racing subculture. I loved the outlandish Action set pieces and cool Locations. And now they want to ditch that and reintroduce such Long absent characters like "law of physics" or "gravity"? Good luck with that.

I wouldn't mind this considering the original is one of my more favorites of the franchise.

Would be nice to return to a smaller cast and doing intense stunts that are more based in reality.
I really can't bear this whole "we are family" shit no more.
A thriller set in the racing world would be neat.

why not ?

I like Rob Cohen, he did good action movies, he is talented and he needs a great return to form, cause THE BOY NEXT DOOR was just like a TV movie for housewifes...

I got dragged in to watch The Boy Next Door and I really thought it should have been a TV special of sort, instead of a theatrical movie.

I've enjoyed the Fast Furious movies since the beginning - looking at where it's reached now, only makes me like those movies even more (the same applies to Harry Potter and MCU movies). Whilst I've enjoyed those early movies, I've loved them since 5 and glad it's taken the direction it has. I'm not really interested in it returning to its roots. Incidentally, I've always liked Vin Diesel (since Pitch Black) but when it comes to Riddick and the Furious movies, the guy really loves to blow

I'm guessing either Rob Cohen will make a comeback to Fast & Furious series or Vin Diesel will take that director chair himself.

One of the top comments on Vin's Facebook post is from a guy who actually says "I would love Rob Cohen to direct Fast and Furious 8!', and Vin not only liked the comment (which is rare), but he also said "Me too". Something tells me Universal and Diesel are going to try to persuade Cohen away from the Road House reboot so that he can direct F&F 8.
