Spider-Man: Homecoming may feature an appearance by Vulture

It's only a matter of time before Spider-Man officially becomes a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - May 6, to be exact, with CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. Once that happens though, the machine will really begin rolling on the next reboot of Spider-Man over at Sony Pictures, only this time Marvel Studios will be heavily involved in the direction he takes.

It's quite possible we could get some solid information from Sony as they present this week at CinemaCon, but the rumblings are already beginning to circulate about what a few of the plans are for Spidey's first solo endeavor as a part of the greater MCU.

According to Devin Faraci at Birth.Movies.Death, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, the potential title revealed by Sony's domain registration, is the name the new movie is currently operating under. That could change, but apparently people over at Marvel and Sony really dig it, so it very well may stick.

Furthermore, he reports that Vulture will be in HOMECOMING. Now, to what extent at this point remains unclear. He could be the main villain. He could be a secondary villain. He could be someone the Universe builds to revealing as a bigger force for later. He could be someone Spidey takes out to kick off the movie. There are a lot of possibilities for Vulture's involvement, none of which anyone is set to reveal just yet... but it does sound like he'll be making an appearance period.

Let's not forget... Adrian Toomes was set to be a major part of Sam Raimi's take on Spider-Man, with John Malkovich lined up to play Vulture in SPIDER-MAN 4. However, Sony opted to shift gears and reboot with the two AMAZING SPIDER-MAN films rather than let Raimi carry on with more sequels, and Vulture never came to be.

This may finally be his chance to hit the big screen if things come to pass. We'll have to keep an eye on these developments and ponder if John Malkovich could still be a viable contender for the part.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, if that title holds up, is on the release date calendar for July 7, 2017.

Meh, he could work well as a villain Spidey takes out in the opening moments of the film to kick it off. But I don't think Vulture is really that great of a villain to carry an entire movie.

Not sure who would make the best villain for Spidey's first time out (under Marvel). But I'd like to see something different than Green Goblin or any of the other villains we've seen before. Personally, I think Mysterio would be great to see on screen. But I really think Scorpion could make for a

Personally, I think Mysterio would be great to see on screen. But I really think Scorpion could make for a great story, he was created with the help (financing) of J. Jonah Jameson as a means to bringing down Spidey. That would be a great way to bridge Spidey's involvement in Civil War to his own movie, it also allows for a more personal story of Spiderman/Peter Parker in his first outing, and it lets his supporting cast have more to do than just talk about Peter Parker/Spiderman all the time. Those are my thoughts anyways.

Malkovich would've been great as Vulture, though someone's going to get Bryan Cranston in a superhero movie sooner or later - could work. Not really digging the Homecoming subtitle though.

Great! He's a great villain and it's better than them redoing a villain again. What's really important here, though, is that they don't name this movie Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Didn't you previously report that Raimi wanted Ben Kingsley to play the Vulture?

EDIT: Okay, I guess I read that somewhere else.

I would also like to add that I think Ed Harris would make for a badass Vulture as well.

Excited to read that that first new solo film will be a villain we haven't seen thus far in live action. Other than Vulture, I also hope we see this MCU of Spider Man world show us Kraven, Mysterio, Venom, and finally Carnage (who I've been waiting forever to see done on the big screen), while also giving us the classics that we've seen so far (Green Goblin, Dr Octopus, Electro, the Lizard).

As for casting goes for Vulture, I would love to still see Malkovich still be considered or perhaps

Come On Marvel/Sony give us Mysterio! I 'd love Bruce Campbell to play him too but that's a fanboi dream I admit. Kraven would be awesome as well.

Hurray for a new villain!!

I am down for Vulture being the main villain. They can do a ton with him, especially with his anti/reverse aging arc. Where he sucks the life force out of people to become young, and they become old. It's silly but it could work. At least it isn't Goblin/ Doc Octopus /Rhino/Electro/Venom or anyone else we have already seen. I AM a bit worried because the original script draft has Vulture AND Kraven and it was the worst Spidey script of all time because it made Kraven Spidey's teacher who only

Vulture is one of Kravens targets as well (he goes after animal based heroes and villains). I think Scorpion would be a good matchup here instead. Scorpion and Vulture vs Spidey. Scorpion gets his suit from J.J. Jameson and Vulture just wants to be young again. Can't go wrong with that.

I love scorpion too. And I agree Spidey has so many villains it would be great to see a multitude of ones we haven't seen on the big screen yet.

The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series did him perfect, with several funny nods to just how silly an old guy in a bird suit was ...so it can be done. Still, anything other than a secondary villain (perhaps a Bond style intro villain) and I'll continue to be worried about Sony's involvement in all of this until the day I see the movie.
