Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark's Reeve Carney has been cast as musician Jeff Buckley
Someone to fill the mysterious shoes of Jeff Buckley has been found. Reeve Carney, who you may know as the broadway Peter Parker in SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK will play the role of the musician in Jake Scott's (WELCOME TO THE RILEYS) upcoming biopic.
As soon as I read the news of the casting in the press release, I finally ventured to Youtube to listen to Carney's musical skills. At first I was afraid that I wouldn't like what I heard, but I was sadly mistaken. When he's not playing Spidey, Carney is the lead singer and guitarist in a band that bears his last name. If you don't believe that the guy has the chops, check out this and this.
The biopic will follow the short life of Buckley using David Browne's book, "Dream Brother: The Lives & Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley" as reference. Another notable reference is Buckley's mom, Mary Guibert who had this to say on Carney being cast, "We are over the moon that Reeve has agreed to take on this challenging role. I've seen him perform several times...he's been getting ready for this all his life. It certainly doesn't hurt that he looks so much like Jeff.".
Director Scott also commented, “We are excited to have found in Reeve the perfect combination of musical prodigy, impish charm, innate intelligence & sensitivity to play Jeff.”
