Spidey goes "bullet time" in this clip from The Amazing Spider-Man 2

04.16.2014

A new clip from Marc Webb's THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 has swung in, featuring a little Times Square action. Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) squares off with the newly-powered Electro (Jamie Foxx) who sends both electricity and a police car at our favorite web-head and innocent bystanders, prompting a slo-mo "bullet time" reaction. We've kind of grown accustomed to seeing this style of filmmaking since THE MATRIX and it's become fairly standard within the genre, so it's not surprising that they use it here. In fact, it works quite well, as things can get a little hard to discern when superheroes are involved, so it's nice to be able to see what the hell is going on.

Take a look:

When used sparingly or, at a minimum, effectively, the "bullet time" technique can be pretty great and it looks like it's used well here. Based on the trailers for the film it appears we'll see a good bit of this and the use of slow motion, which is totally cool with me. I'm kind of missing the old John Woo style slo-mo of late and wouldn't mind seeing it used a little more, as well, but Spidey going "Matrix" is fine, too. In the end, it's all just a bag of tricks to tell a story. Some work, some don't. Thus far, I'm liking what I see for the stylistic choices in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (and that's coming from someone who pretty much hated the last one).

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014.

"You LIED to me!!!!" : What is it with Spider-Man's villains always being so personal in the movies? Like, you never see him fighting some asshole who just wants to rob people or take over the world, it's always these characters with specific vendettas against Spider-Man himself, and if Spider-Man just wasn't in the picture it seems like everything would be perfectly fine.

Spidey Sense!

Spidey has always been my favorite superhero. I have hopes this will be a fun movie. I know I'm in the minority, and a lot of the mythology they're creating is crazy-balls-wrong but I still think I'm gonna enjoy it. Hell, if I can enjoy "The Chinese Web" there's no reason I can't enjoy this.

I literally feel like we have seen the entire film through all of these clips and footage. They should really stop posting new footage of the film.

The film looks good, but it's like the film is trying to give away everything.

From what I've seen so far (trailers, TV spots, behind the scenes), I'm concerned if this will be CGI overloaded. The other day I was surfing the net and watch The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which at first I thought a TV spot. It turned out to be a trailer for the new The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game. Too much CGI can ruin a movie.

Saw half an hour of footage. I was surprised to find myself like the first Amazing Spider-Man but If people think the Raimi films have aged poorly, there's no question The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will become dated in a similar, if not worse, way. I found it entertaining, but it's also undeniably cheesy. For example, Peter Parker having the Spider-Man theme as his cell phone ring tone is probably okay, but him whistling the theme while he fights Aleksei Sytsevich? Maybe stretching it. There also

There also seems to be not much more to Jamie Foxx's Electro than what we've seen before from the likes of the Riddler, Syndrome and Aldrich Killian - "I was your biggest fan but you ignored me, now I've got powers and I'll make you pay." The 3D was very good though.

the 3D is the only reason I'll be seeing this, but man that is saying something. I wasn't interested at all until I saw the 3D trailer and it looks like a colourful, crazy, action packed ride with top notch 3D effects. I'll buy a ticket to this ride. Bring on the cheese.

I think that's just the right attitude to go in for this. While it certainly doesn't seem great and I haven't been as excited for this as say Cap 2 or GoTG, I don't see any reason to really get mad about this movie the way some have. It's a different situation from that upcoming TMNT film, for instance.

The thing about the ringtone kind of irkes me a bit. It's like the film has to remind us extra that he is Spider Man. And him whistling the song while fighting? Stupid.

I think that is just to show his cockiness at the beginning which Peter Parker is supposed to be, However I think the mood will change as the film progresses.
