Spike Lee to direct Nagasaki Deadline for James Cameron?

Spike Lee has likely found his next film, and it’s a fast-paced action thriller being produced by James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment. It’s called NAGASAKI DEADLINE and Deadline reports Lee is closing a deal with the producers as we speak to direct.

Though it’s Cameron’s company involved, he has reportedly removed his name as a producer credit, presumably not looking to become the next Judd Apatow with his name attached to just anything. But might that be a reflection of how he feels about the project? I’m not sure.

But anyway, what’s it all about?

The film focuses on a troubled FBI agent and his desperate race to thwart two terrorist attacks planned to unfold on American soil. The fed goes beyond obvious suspects to focus on theories that the crime is tied to historical events, as he races against the clock.

Sounds like someone should call Jack Bauer out of retirement. I’m glad this is an action film, as Spike Lee’s last real entry into that genre was INSIDE MAN, and most people (myself included) thought that was a very solid flick. I’ll be curious to see who Lee casts in the lead role here. The obvious choice would obviously be Denzel, but might he reach outside of the box?
