Spoilers: Is this the after credits scene from The Wolverine?

07.19.2013

The Wolverine

Back in May we brought you an exclusive about a re-shoot on THE WOLVERINE for a credits scene. There weren't that many details about the context of the scene, but it was revealed that someone from Logan's past appeared in it. I say "someone" because this part of the article is a "No Spoiler Zone" and it gives me a chance to add a bit of filler before I get into the new details about the scene. Once again, there are spoilers ahead so if you don't want to know about the end credits scene from THE WOLVERINE, make sure you don't scroll past Hugh Jackman's very veiny arms.

Spoiler buffer

Still with me? Ok. When the credits scene was first reported, many assumed it would tie into X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST since Professor X (Patrick Stewart) was involved. The new report from CBM goes into detail about how the scene may play out, and another familiar face apparently shows up as well:

Wolverine is walking through an airport two years after the events of the movie and all the metal detectors start going haywire with paper clips and shit flying everywhere. He turns around to find Ian McKellen's Magneto standing there. Magneto warns him of an enemy looking to destroy Mutants by building machines (this is directly following a Trask reference so it's probably Sentinels) and asks Wolverine to join him in defending his kind. Wolverine says no and asks why he should even consider it, when all the police and civilians gathered around them freeze and Patrick Stewart as Prof X wheels into frame and says something generic. Cue credits.

One thing that really stands out in this description: "Prof X wheels into frame." THE WOLVERINE is suppose to be set after the events of X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, and at the end of that movie Xavier's mind was transferred to another body. So with the time travel elements in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, has something already messed with the time line from the original films so that Professor X is back in his original body? From how the scene is described it sounds like Professor X's reveal is suppose to be a surprise for Logan, so I do think it's a possibility.

Is this description accurate though? We'll be able to find out soon: THE WOLVERINE will pop its claws in theaters on July 26th, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Wait, so Logan flies on regular airlines? How the hell does he get past the metal detectors? Does he have one of those cards explaining he has metal implants?

I'm just more concerned about how they'll explain how Chuck is alive after the events of X3.

It's actually never SAID that it's his twin brother, but, in the bonus material they explained that a deleted scene showed the name of the 'mindless body', and it was (Don't remember the name) Xavier...

That's a pretty damn good ending credit scene and will be a great way for this film to lead up to Days of Future Past.

So ready to finally see this movie. It looks great.

I like the sound of this. DOFP will definitely have a lot of questions to answer.

answering tidbit....

As a mater of fact, Wolverine DOES have a medical card to show he has metal in his bones, via armed service in Canada. They actually have it written in the comics from an OLD issue way back in the day, but thats canon.

Sounds cool but...

Marvel has ruined me as far as ending credit scenes. I remember waiting around for a post credits scene after The Heat and This Is The End.

This is the End was supposed to have a post-credits scene. But, it was deleted for being too offensive. A person can read about the scene on imdb. I do not want to ruin the planned joke scene here.

Sounds like it would be a good after-credits scene. But why are you posing all these questions about how Patrick Stewart is back as Professor X when he was killed off in X3. We already know he was coming back for DOFP, the fact that Patrick Stewart is playing Prof. X again shouldn't be that shocking or questionable to you at this point.

yeah

Yeah, this is the scene. You could see a TRASK INDUSTRIES thingy on the airport TV. The movie fits well right after X3 and this scene is a cool hang to DOFP.
