Stakeland director heats up Cold In July adaptation

We've been hearing about director Jim Mickle's attempt to bring Joe R. Lansdale's COLD IN JULY to the screen since 2007 when Belladonna Productions first optioned the rights to the tale. Every few years we would hear an update on the project which brought it closer to lensing, but the film has yet to go in front of the camera. In the meantime Mickle had shot and released the uber-cool vampire flick STAKELAND and has his Sundance hit WE ARE WHAT WE ARE playing at the Director's Fortnight section at this years Cannes, but work has never stopped trying to get COLD IN JULY in production.

Now Deadline is reporting that the long gestating project is finally moving forward as Paris-based Backup Media has teamed up with Memento Films International to finance COLD IN JULY, to be produced by Belladonna Productions’ Rene Bastian, Adam Folk, and Linda Moran.

Memento Films International will handle foreign sales and team up with WME Global on the domestic end, as they did on the eOne deal for Mickle’s latest film WE ARE WHAT WE ARE.
