Stallone gets dates! Releases for The Expendables 3 and Escape Plan announced

Jun. 3, 2013by: Paul Shirey

We've heard a lot from Sylvester Stallone on THE EXPENDABLES 3 lately, including more casting confirmations and the hiring of director Patrick Hughes (RED HILL) to helm the third installment. Now, Lionsgate has given Stallone a release date for the veteran action star bonanza franchise, setting the pic up for it's usual late summer stomping ground, August 15, 2014.

In addition, Stallone's team up with longtime pal Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Tomb ESCAPE PLAN has been shifted from September 13, 2014 to October 18, 2013, putting it up against other contenders like CARRIE, DON JON, and SEVENTH SON. ESCAPE PLAN is directed by Mikael Håfström (1408, THE RITE) and also stars Vincent D'Onofrio, Vinnie Jones, Sam Neill, Amy Ryan, 50 Cent, and Jim Caviezel.

Both Stallone and Schwarzenegger have had a rough start so far this year, with both THE LAST STAND and BULLET TO THE HEAD not faring well at the box office, but I think ESCAPE PLAN has real promise and if Ah-nuld comes back for THE EXPENDABLES 3 for a bigger role (which he's stated he'd like to do), then these action giants could easily find their way back into the good graces of audiences. I'm all for a third act comeback from both of them and with the projects they have lined up, including Schwarzenegger's actioner SABOTAGE (formerly TEN, formerly BREACHER) from David Ayers and Stallone's GRUDGE MATCH with Robert De Niro. Team '80's can bring it back!

How can you not love these guys?

Extra Tidbit: What franchise would you most like to see Stallone return to? I'm still game for more Rambo, personally.

Looking forward to both these films. Very cool to finally be able to watch Arnold and Sly in the same movies these days, something that was just a action fan's dream in the 90s.

Really excited for both of these films. Schwartzenegger and Stallone deserve to have a couple of more hits under their belt at this age. I just hope it's these two films considering how good the concepts sound and how great the casts are.

i wonder if this effects Jason Statham who is set to appear in Fast and Furious 7 which will begin filming in September and is set for a July 2014 release.

Rambo 5

i would love to see this in Rambo 5:
Rambo's father is still alive and now John helps him run their farm and tries to lead a quiet life.
Someone shows up on the farm bloodied and beaten and the Rambo's give him/her shelter.
While Rambo is in town, the Cartels come looking for this person and Rambo's father is killed trying to defend the person.
Rambo is out for vengeance... Cartels have come to southern Arizona.

It would be great to take the current boarder problems and put them in

How about Rambo and Dutch dealing with a predator or 3. Who wouldn't love to see that?

I wanna see both films

Havent seen bullet to the head but the last stand was mindless fun, and it was good to see the big guy out there again, so im all in for both these movies....and as far as the extra tidbit, stallone has to give us one more rambo, I really enjoyed 4 and would like to see one more, maybe give him a cameo if we ever get a dredd sequel?

Escape Plan sounds like fun, but I think "The Tomb" might've been a better title. Bullet to the Head was okay, it felt rather direct-to-DVD in parts but it wasn't bad. The Last Stand was interesting, it was pretty different from the usual Hollywood action fare and had it quirks, but not everything fit together well enough and it didn't have that rhythm so it lagged a little in parts. But the two of them having to break out of prison - sounds fun.

WORST SUPPORTING CAST EVER: Vincent D'Onofrio, Vinnie Jones, Sam Neill, Amy Ryan, 50 Cent, and Jim Caviezel.

What are you doing Jim.... no.... your better than this!!!! Caviezel should be put in movie jail.

And putting such horrible actors with actors who are capable of better makes this a pretty horrible supporting cast.

Vinnie Jones has become the kiss of death DTV guy for awhile now and I challenge you to name a movie that was even kind of decent that had Curtis Jackson in it.

Are you kidding me? D'Onfrio is gold, Vinnie Jones is super fun to watch, Sam Neil is very underrated and always gives a good performance, Caviezel same thing and Amy Ryan is a solid actress. The ONLY one you are correct about is 50 Cent.

While I am looking forward to The Tomb and Ten, this is where my beef is. Escape Plan? SABOTAGE!? (Breacher at least made sense because that's what Arnold's nickname is in the movie). After Jason Statham's Hummingbird was retitled Redemption, this trend is just annoying me.

That's it, just wanted to vent a little.
