Stallone says to forget about another Rambo sequel

05.03.2010

Just over six months ago, Sylvester Stallone wrote an e-mail to the editor of a fansite talking about his vision for RAMBO 5 ("Rambo himself will be heading over the border to a violent city where many young women have vanished..."). Now Stallone has told Empire that the RAMBO franchise is done. Kaput. It's over Johnny.

"I think Rambo's pretty well done," Stallone told the mag while promoting his latest film, THE EXPENDABLES. "I don't think there'll be any more. I'm about 99% sure," he added. 99%? "So you're telling me there's a chance? YEAH!"

So where did the wheels fall off? In November, Stallone was hot to trot and now he's putting the kibosh on the whole deal. What gives? "For Rambo to go on another adventure might be, I think, misinterpreted as a mercenary gesture and not necessary. I donít want that to happen."

Normally the news that Stallone wasn't going to be sequelizing one of his old 80s action movies wouldn't phase me much but I was somewhat encouraged by the news that John Rambo might be genre-hopping with a new film that was something like PREDATOR. Heck, I got excited enough that I wrote an entire column back in 2008 about famous movie characters that Rambo could fight next. (I'm still somewhat in love with RAMBO VS. THE LIVING DEAD).

Are you disappointed that the RAMBO franchise has ended? Are there any other classic Stallone movies you'd rather see him bring back to the screen?

Extra Tidbit: If you said OVER THE TOP to that last question you win a million internets.

Just one more!

Stallone should go back to where it all started, with brian dennehey's now wheelchair bound character having spent years waiting to get revenge on Rambo and hunting him down with a team of hired mercenaries! I would love to see stallone and dennehey clash again and it would bring the Rambo story full circle!

boo!

I want more Rambo! That said, sometimes Stallone gets a little Tarantinoitis, and announces, cancels, proposes, all sorts of projects. I'd say theres a 50/50 chance another Rambo still happens.

"Last Blood"

This kind of sucks. Stallone should just go back to the roots of First Blood and bring Rambo back to the states.

Obviously a man like John Rambo wouldn't fit in because of the crazy past he has had. It would be easy to have some sort of conflict arise between local authorities.

Essentially it would be a homage to the original film while finishing up the series.

Come on Stallone. Just 1 more!

Very classy and smart of Stallone. Do a Get Carter sequel. I could go for another round of Sly vs. Rourke!

This news is a bummer! I really liked the fourth one, and was looking forward to a sequel. Between this news and the news of no sequel for Anchor Man this week has been a bummer for movie news!

Good choise

I`m ok with it. RAMBO's ending was pretty cool as a finale. And we'll probably looking foward to EXPENDABLES 2 after the flick release in august.

Nothing is over NOTHING !!! you just don't turn it off!

So disapointed I loved the idea of RAMBO becoming like the BRONSON character in DEATHWISH or seeing him become like the PUNISHER a man on a mission to die while laying waste to all the scum in his path. The last movie ended well but for the story to end I think RAMBO needs to die an honorable hero's death at the end.

Stallone is too old enough to play another Rambo film. The Expendables will fill that need for another Rambo film. How about a Demolition Man or Nighthawks sequel.

Im pretty sure Rambo wont be done. 20 years a Rambo remake will stir up maybe less than 20 even 10 years. Or maybe not even a remake but reimaging in 20 years based on Rambos son. Its obvious we wont see the end of Rambo.

Although I was looking forward to Rambo V whenever Sly announced he had changed the plot to a more realistic and very relevant story, I'm still not overly disappointed that it isn't happening. Like others have said, the 4th one ended it beautifully and to continue from there wouldn't be a horrible idea, but it just isn't really necessary in the cinematic world. He ended Rocky and Rambo both on great notes that mirrored the originals and I think it's time to move on. I'm beyond stoked for The

I also agree with those who want Tango & Cash 2. That's the one stand alone film Stallone made that I am just dying to be continued in a sequel (although it's probably too late now).

Sly, you let me down, big time.

Sly, no one does action like you, and Rambo is the greatest action hero to ever grace the silver screen. Despite this, you made us wait 20 years for a follow-up to Rambo III and RAMBO was certainly well worth the wait. However, even though fans like myself turned out in droves to support John J, you now decide to retire the character? This after you said you WERE making a fifth installment? Doesn't make much sense. Why say you're giving us another slice of brutal action-heaven, if you

I think most people found Rambo's last outing surprisingly satisfying and a good note to end on. Why run the risk of ruining things? Besides, I thought the idea for the 5th one was awful.

Kurt Russell is an asshole right now. He turned down a role in the expendables because it was an ensemble movie and he wasn't the star.

Don't know what to think about this. I agree that seeing Rambo one last time would have been cool, especially seeing him exterminate slavers. However, it is also true that the latest film ended the cycle perfectly, and this one could be seen as unnecessary. I don't have a problem with Sly moving forward with another all-original movie like The Expendables.

Needs one more chapter...

Yeah, that's a bummer. I was really looking forward to another Rambo. I did love how the end of Rambo 4 came full circle, but I still think there is more story to tell. The character really isn't "at peace" yet. Just went through the bloodiest battle of his life, and proved to those missionaries that the world if a harsh place to live, and then he went back home. Where is the ending in that? I really believe they should make one last film, and have it not be a "war film", but about Rambo

Maybe make him an outlaw again, like in the original. Maybe he goes back home, but it doesn't quite work out so well. Give him a beard, or grayish hair, like an old weathered soldier. Rambo is the "Wolverine/Logan" of films, and there is so many ways to take the character. Think poetically and outside the box. The "Old Man Logan" or "Metal Gear Solid 4" of Rambo films, is what Rambo 5 should be. Besides, it kind of sucks to only have 4 Rambo films, and one of them is ridiculously over the top.

Demolition Man

Rambo ended the series perfectly. John Rambo returns home...juxtaposing the end with the opening of "First Blood" when he has no home.

I would like to see John Spartan and what happened to San Angelas. Wesley Snipes, Sandra Bullock, Dennis Leary. It could be a fun romp.

Really enjoyed what Stallone did with both Rambo and Rocky the past few years and I'm anxious to see what he's cooking next. Playing a bad-ass villan maybe?

Good I'm glad. I think the way Rambo ended was perfect for the character and the story altogether. Let him rest and move on to something new or fairly new.
