Stallone says to forget about another Rambo sequel

Just over six months ago, Sylvester Stallone wrote an e-mail to the editor of a fansite talking about his vision for RAMBO 5 (“Rambo himself will be heading over the border to a violent city where many young women have vanished…”). Now Stallone has told Empire that the RAMBO franchise is done. Kaput. It’s over Johnny.

“I think Rambo’s pretty well done,” Stallone told the mag while promoting his latest film, THE EXPENDABLES. “I don’t think there’ll be any more. I’m about 99% sure,” he added. 99%? “So you’re telling me there’s a chance? YEAH!”

So where did the wheels fall off? In November, Stallone was hot to trot and now he’s putting the kibosh on the whole deal. What gives? “For Rambo to go on another adventure might be, I think, misinterpreted as a mercenary gesture and not necessary. I don’t want that to happen.”

Normally the news that Stallone wasn’t going to be sequelizing one of his old 80s action movies wouldn’t phase me much but I was somewhat encouraged by the news that John Rambo might be genre-hopping with a new film that was something like PREDATOR. Heck, I got excited enough that I wrote an entire column back in 2008 about famous movie characters that Rambo could fight next. (I’m still somewhat in love with RAMBO VS. THE LIVING DEAD).

Are you disappointed that the RAMBO franchise has ended? Are there any other classic Stallone movies you’d rather see him bring back to the screen?
