Stallone wants Sigourney Weaver for Expendabelles and to shoot in early 2015

08.06.2014

THE EXPENDABLES 3 hits theaters next Friday, and while they haven't perfected the formula yet, it sounds like we're in for our most fun entry with this newest installment (check out our review from the London premiere here). With that said, it looks like sights are now being set on bringing THE EXPENDABELLES to screens. In case you need a refresher, I've posted the last known synopsis below.

When America’s Navy SEALs are wiped out trying to penetrate the island lair of a deadly despot who has captured one of the world’s top nuclear scientists, it becomes clear that there is no such thing as the right man for the job and that this is a mission so impossible that only women can handle it. The only way in: some of the world’s deadliest female operatives must pose as high-class call-girls shipped in by private plane to satisfy a dictator–and instead save the scientist and the day.

At the recent EXPENDABLES 3 premiere, Sylvester Stallone made the suggestion that Sigourney Weaver could be the female equivalent of his character, and stated that the beginning of the film could start with their divorce. “So she’d get the house, the kids and my mercenaries!” he joked. "With THE EXPENDABELLES we’ve got a situation where we’re in uncharted waters,” he said. “Do we put all women actresses together, would that really work? Or do we have some women who are actually really known to be tough fighters?”

Valid question, although I think finding women who can actually act and sell "tough" would be the top priority, of which the Alien-crushing Sigourney Weaver would pass with flying colors. Producer Avi Lerner, who worked on the three EXPENDABLES movies, stated that "We are writing the final lines of the script, we’ve got lots of ideas about who is going to be in it.” There has been no official word as to the casting, but director Robert Luketic (LEGALLY BLONDE, THE UGLY TRUTH) hasn't exactly inspired confidence that this will be the kick-ass affair women deserve. In any regard, it remains an interesting project, for sure.

THE EXPENDABELLES looks to go into production in early 2015.

I assure you, this shot was vital to the integrity of ALIEN.

I suspect...

All they want to do is pretend they are doing this so that no porn studio uses the name.

Well duh, it wouldn't be the Expendabelles without her.

But oh my god, the "high-class hookers" thing bugs me to no end. That is the best you could come up with? Seriously? This idea had potential, now it's all but dead. Please, it's not too late to rewrite the damn thing.

Typical single brain celled Hollywood

The idea for an all female action cast is inspired BUT then they go and insult women by making the pose as prostitutes. Can't the women just be baddass mercenaries. No, Hollywood has to tart them up first and "sexify" them before they can do the ass kicking. Joss Whedon needs to give all these assholes writing lessons.

That is quite possibly the shittiest premise they could have come up with for a female Expendables movie.

I've always thought it would be fantastic to have Sigourney Weaver or Linda Hamilton be part of The Expendables lore but not in a separate, exclusive series of films. I wanted them to be right there with Sly and Co. I suppose in theory, if this works and does well they could do crossovers (cameos or extensive), but I think it'd work better to be inclusive instead of the separation.

High-class call girls in their fifties and sixties?

Maybe the older females will play the Madams of the call girls, with younger women playing the roles of the call girls??? Im guessing? But yeah, i was thinking the same thing.

Sigourney Waver, Linda Hamilton, Uma Thurman, Kate Beckinsale, Milla Jovovich Lucy Liu, Scarlett Johansson, Summer Glau, Gina Carano and Cynthia Rothrock. Those would be my top 10 and I think they cover your major bases pretty nicely. Also, I like the idea of Luc Besson directing.

I would also add Milla Jovovich, Zoe Saldana, and Natalie Portman.

Yes Jovovich is a must, huge oversight on my part. The other two aren't bad picks, either.

I didn't realize this was related to the expendables (not even universe, but creators), I thought they were just piggy backing on the idea. This sounds fun, but almost impossible to sustain. Don't get me wrong, I think SW (and Susan Surandon) are still hot, but posing as a high class escort? Idk guys. Another (of the many) problem(s) is that the ideal female team doesn't have the individual action legacies as expendables does (Rocky, Rambo, Blade, Terminator, Indiana Jones, Han Solo,

Another (of the many) problem(s) is that the ideal female team doesn't have the individual action legacies as expendables does (Rocky, Rambo, Blade, Terminator, Indiana Jones, Han Solo, Universal Soldier, can go on and on and then the non-franchise films). Hollywood doesn't have that with actresses, so the fun factor is hurt. The only 3-4 I can really think of who have franchises are SW, Jovavich, ScarJo, and Halle Berry. Throw in Theron, hope you get Bullock and maybe ironic choices like Mirren, Dench, Melissa McCarthy? Julia Roberts? Cameron Diaz? Then you go to Michelle Rodriguez, Carino. I'm forgetting Sin City girls, Kill Bill, some more I'm sure. But the fun team up factor isn't there of watching Mclane and Terminator together. And really, the male version doesn't even work. It's never really been better than the first trailer for #3 where you see them line up and smile. I'd like to see those girls line up like that. But these don't work as films, not yet. They are more like the super fun Grindhouse trailers (Rodriguez should've directed one of these films, I thought a Machete 2 was everything Expendables wanted to be/should've been). These would work better as short films, one shots, or some other creative medium, but the budget would be to high for that I assume. And if E#3 bombs, if people don't get what they are trying to do, or they just don't get it done, water it down, then I'm pretty positive it's not going to work for a female version - unless they wait for whatever female superhero solo movie to be released, and it dominates, and they cast her - oh, I guess Jennifer Laurence is a pretty big pull.

i feel like i can hear Morgan Freeman from the LEGO Movie in my head saying "that idea is just the worst."
this sounds terrible. not because its an all female cast, but because it sounds like an awful James Bond movie spin off from the early 70s. These ladies deserve better than that. Although i have to admit that Luc Besson writing and directing could change my mind.

Even though I think this film sounds terrible, I think Luc Besson would be a good difrctor for a movie like this.
