Stan Lee to appear in a "big role" on upcoming episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Jan. 7, 2014by: Paul Shirey

We've seen the legendary Stan Lee, creator/co-creator of a laundry list of Marvel heroes and villains, appear in the various Marvel films from all different studios and now he's making the leap into Marvel's TV world with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Lee will have a "big role" in an upcoming episode of the series, which is likely to air on February 4th (although subject to change). Lee is no stranger to television, having appeared on Stan Lee's Who Wants To Be A Superhero? and Stan Lee's Superhumans, as well as voice work on numerous animated shows and guest appearances on various non-Marvel related shows, but this is his first acting gig within the live-action Marvel TV world.

Here's Lee with the S.H.I.E.L.D. cast:

Stan "the man" Lee is also set to headline the new animated series Stan Lee's Mighty 7, which features the voice talents of Armie Hammer, Teri Hatcher, Christian Slater, Mayim Bialik, Flea, Darren Criss, Jim Belushi and Sean Astin, which looks a bit amusing. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn't exactly been tearing it up in the ratings department, but with the promise of more reveals (including why Agent Coulson is still alive) and cameos coupled with a fairly strong fanbase, the show could very well pull out of the flames if they play their cards right.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is on Tuesdays at 8 pm on ABC

Arrow season 2 is kicking the sh*t out of this...but I'll stick with it...coz I know it'll get better once everything falls in to place. When the goodness arrives...suddenly even those crappy episodes will experience increases in their value. Joss Whedon produced shows work this way.

They need to do crossovers with Daredevil, Powerman, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones and also tie into the Captain America: Winter Soldier in a big way perhaps with an arc involving the Falcon and/or Baron Strucker.

Not watching

I may watch the Stan Lee bit bit doubtful, You Tube will probably be where I see it as then I don't have to sit through the hour of crap that this show is. How to improve the show? Hire different writers, kill off a couple of the cast members and get some actual superheroes on the show. Also keep Joss away from the show as well, he is not a good writer either.

Joss Whedon doesn't write or oversee the show, his younger brother Jedd, who also was the showrunner for Dollhouse does. If Joss was overseeing it personally I'm sure there would still be some people that disliked it, but the overall quality would be much better.

What would bring me back?

Replacing Jedd Whedon with someone who is actually familiar with the Marvel Universe and has more talent. Joss directed the pilot, and while he know Marvel through and through, his kid brother is not and his writing skills definitely aren't on par with Joss's.

My suggestion for making the show better is simple. How about hiring some actual comic book writers to write some episodes. Joss leaving it all up to his brother and sister-in-law isn't exactly the best course of action.

Stan Lee is a horrific actor...

he somehow manages to be terrible in 20 second cameos, so giving him extended screen time is a bad idea. i dont watch this show though, so really, this reply is pointless

I no longer watch Agents of SHIELD. The JoBlo summaries will have to keep me informed about this Stan Lee episode and other exciting chapters. Perhaps, Lee plays a Howling Commando--whom Lee helped create. The Howlers have appeared already in Captain America: The First Avenger. Thus, ABC could tie another SHIELD episode to a Marvel movie such as the network did with Thor: The Dark World. A Howling Commando would be a "superhero" cameo for the Marvel fans, and a cost-effective character for ABC.

Perhaps, for the season (and possibly series) finale, ABC could do something with Graviton (previously introduced) and blow their budget.

That would be a great angle for connecting the movies and upcoming Carter series. It was also mentioned previously that the season(/series) finale was going to tie in directly to the upcoming Captain America movie.

Still watching

Still watching and I still like it. I get why most tear it apart, it most certainly isn't what I expected. I was expecting superpowered agents and heroes squaring off against superpowered (yet still second tier) villians. But I can appreciate it for what it is. It's about the little guys in this universe, the support team that are essentially the eyes and ears of this universe. Some prefer Arrow over this, but I wouldn't put this show in the same category. Sure it can be predictable at

Sure it can be predictable at times, but what show isn't these days really. I can tell this show doesn't have much more time, but I'm going to enjoy it while it's here. I am really curious about how Clark Greg's storyline is going to shake out.

Watching this show is like pulling teeth. I'm just fine getting my superhero fix on the small screen from Arrow for now on. That show surpasses Agents of Shield in everything and anything.

i like the show

it's been getting better as it goes. Its a high concept thats still trying to figure out what it is.

I think the best thing for it would be to add a recognizable superhero to the mix, even for one episode. Someone not yet in the movies. Like Black Panther, Dr Strange, or better yet, The Runaways

The only way that SHIELD is high concept television is if you are high while watching it. The reason it is unwatchable is because the show is predictable on almost every level possible. I do agree with you that the only way to get people back on board is to bring in a big name hero or villain, for longer than a single episode.

Sounds like stunt casting in an attempt to boost ratings.
