Star Trek info

An article in the NY Times has confirmed about the upcoming STAR TREK film what many have long suspected, that it will indeed focuse on the earliest adventures of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. The article , which is itself a good read, is about Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, screenwriters of TRANSFORMERS as well as the upcoming STAR TREK redux. A little excerpt:

Compared to “Transformers” “Star Trek” is a miles-long minefield of established chronology, laid down over four decades, one that Mr. Orci and Mr. Kurtzman must be careful not to tamper with or contradict. But they say that by focusing their film (already scheduled for a Christmas 2008 release) on the earliest adventures of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, they can avoid most of these perils.

“What was a little daunting,” Mr. Kurtzman said, “was while we were writing it, they sent over a poster with the release date on it. We hadn’t written ‘fade in’ yet.” Mr. Orci added: “We’ve never had a movie poster before we’ve had a script. That’s pressure.”

I’ve never been too much of a STAR TREK fan. Every time THE NEXT GENERATION was on, I was busy following the trials and tribulations of Stephanie Tanner on FULL HOUSE, but even I’m excited about this movie, and you can probably chalk that up to J.J. Abrams being in the director’s chair. He’s one of the few people working today who consistently elevates the work simply by being involved. And now we await casting news.
