Star Trek Plot Deets

03.05.2009

With WATCHMEN about to light up the box office this weekend and much being made of the battle between Michael Bay and McG for box office supremacy this summer, JJ Abram's STAR TREK is kind of getting lost in the fray. After the success of CLOVERFIELD however, it's best never to underestimate the abilities of the man with the black thick frames. TrekMovie has an exclusive look at the cover art for the official novel adaptation of the film, as well as a novel summary, which I'm guessing can be applied to the film as well.

One grew up in the cornfields of Iowa, fighting for his independence, for a way out of a life that promised only indifference, aimlessness, and obscurity.

The other grew up on the jagged cliffs of the harsh Vulcan desert, fighting for acceptance, for a way to reconcile the logic he was taught with the emotions he felt.

In the far reaches of the galaxy, a machine of war bursts into existence in a place and time it was never meant to be. On a mission of retribution of the destruction of his planet, its half-mad captain seeks the death of every intelligent being, and the annihilation of every civilized world.

Kirk and Spock, two completely different and unyielding personalities, must find a way to lead the only crew, aboard the only ship, that can stop him.

For me, the most thrilling thing about this description is the chilling description of Nero as a "half-mad captain" who "seeks the death of every intelligent being, and the annihilation of every civilized world." I've never been a huge fan of the Trek franchise but after that, I'm in.

There's nothing exciting to me about a Michael Bay styled action movie with a Star Trek theme blanketed over top of it. They might as well have called it OC In Space. Bullocks!

No matter how this movie pans out, its gonna be one hell of a summer. Still, this is going to be a must see movie!

this is nothing at all like the chronicles of riddick. Nothing. at. all.

I'm fucking pumped for it... and I don't even watch Star Trek.

I get a feeling this will end up like Superman Returns. People will be split between liking it and disliking it for their own reasons, whether they are a die hard fan or not. It'll do decent at the box office, but not enough to invest in another sequel.

I Hope!

I hope MrWhite's right! I'm still amazed they actually did it! Nothin' cooler than the original characters.

I disagree with the below comments...this will make a ridiculous amount of money. This literally reaches every available demographic, not just Trekkies. The Baby Boomers grew up with Star Trek, as did every other generation thereafter. This will be a huge hit.

I agree

I agree w/ SuperRO,it does appear only "Trekkers/Trekkies" seem jazzed for the new "Star Trek" film. This film is my No.1 most anticipated for 2009-looks amazing!Times rollin' ever onward-kids who were born as late as 1994 (the year the last vestige of the OLD Star Trek characters were used on the big screen in "Generations")are now 15 and have really no history or much interest in the original "Star Trek" characters-a generational thing. Glad they got this film done! probably wont be another.

NOT REALLY...

It seems to me that they are trying to reach a new audience and thus in that fact, they are failing. No one besides TREKKIES talk about this film (even thouh, for what I've seen in the trailer, it looks badass..)

Let's be honest, everything nowadays has to do with those "guys with watches" and "the robots", both from the "future" and the "present"..

For me, this is another CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK waiting to happen.. a very cool film with a very low audience..
