Star Wars: Episode VII is Ireland bound

07.24.2014

As rumors swirl of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII's plotline, we have some concrete bit of news regarding the production. The cast and crew will be heading off the coast of County Kerry in Ireland for some shooting. In case you're feeling stalkery, they'll be shooting somewhere around Skellig Michael, which is an island in the Atlantic. They may or may not be taking advantage of the ruins there, no doubt doubling for . . . . well, something.

As much as I love sneak peaks at new aliens, the leg-crushing Millennium Falcon or a slightly altered X-Wing, this production news is exciting as we know that they're really putting forth the effort to film in actual locations, rather than just playing around in a studio the whole day. Undoubtedly, digital changes/extensions will be applied to real-world locations, but actual filming there puts the actors in the right mindset, and provides a great source of reference for the digital animators.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII will show off some of its real-world locales come December 18, 2015.
