Star Wars Rumor Mill: Is David Fincher open to directing a Star Wars movie?

David Fincher's name has been thrown around since STAR WARS: EPISODE VII was announced as a dream director. The guy used to work at Industrial Light & Magic and got his start as a filmmaker on RETURN OF THE JEDI and INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM. The guy has the history with George Lucas and is an amazing director.
Until now, he was just a dream contender and not anyone we heard as having an actual shot at making a new STAR WARS. While it appears unlikely he will helm STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, Deadline briefly mentions this rumor along with the fact they hear Fincher would be open to it.
I would love to see Fincher tackle a STAR WARS movie, but maybe something more like the Knights of the Old Republic as opposed to the main storyline. Either way it would be a win for movie fans to get a Fincher STAR WARS.
Check out the reverence Fincher shows for the franchise from this interview with Collider:
“Star Wars. Empire. It’s the only answer. I appreciate Star Wars; it’s an amazing accomplishment, it is an A+. I think Empire’s an A++ because it’s one of those movies where it was, remember, it was my senior year of high school in the summer. When I saw that George Lucas was going to do the AT-ATs on baking soda with stop-motion and he was going to turn a pivotal character over to Frank Oz and he was going to play it as a Muppet, I thought, “This fucking guy has balls, man.” It’s unreal the risks that he will take in order to tell us his story. And the fact that it comes off so well, that it’s so deftly done, is just the ultimate to me, the cobbling together of all of these magical disciplines to make this thing that is so much greater than the sum of its parts. That’s spectacular. The cast is spectacular, everybody works well, it’s fun, it’s crazy good. Crazy good entertainment, amazing cinema.”
That sounds like the right guy for the job, doesn't it?
| Extra Tidbit: | Jon Favreau also restated his interest in the job. Sir Derek Jacobi also threw his hat in the ring for an elder Jedi role. I cannot wait for official news! |

Still No

Would be cool but...
Alien 3...
He was basically thrown out the editing room and almost 'Alan Smethee'ed it...
So, considering it's a Fincher movie is not totally accurate, to me...
Even the so called Director's Cut edition is not his, because he NEVER wanted to go back to this movie... Much like David Lynch with DUNE... Which coincidently was 'directed by Alan Smethee' for the extended TV cut !

No lie, I was honestly thinking of Fincher directing a Star Wars movie just a few days ago
I sincerely hope that come Star Wars VII and beyond, the filmmaker will continue to innovate the same way Lucas and co. did back in the day. Harping on the overuse of CGI in the Star
I sincerely hope that come Star Wars VII and beyond, the filmmaker will continue to innovate the same way Lucas and co. did back in the day. Harping on the overuse of CGI in the Star Wars prequels is old, and I'm fully aware of how hard all the digital artists at ILM worked on the visuals for the prequels and that they were at times extremely impressive, and that it's more cost-efficient to do some things digitally these days - but I hope that, like Prometheus, Star Wars VII accomplishes as much in-camera and with practical effects as possible.
David FIncher is a very admirable director and a master craftsman through and through (sitting through his Social Network commentary felt like mini film school, it was awesome), though to my knowledge he hasn't done anything that can be considered remotely kid-friendly just yet, and the Star Wars films are meant to be more or less family entertainment, if not "children's movies" per se. If he takes it on, I'd definitely be down. I'm sure Fincher is all ready to prove that he can do much better sci-fi than Alien 3.
Definitely down with this
NOOOO to Fincher!
Fuck Johnny Favs...
He was atop my list when we did CAST THIS. And he still is. To bring him on for the 2nd film in the new trilogy would be tantamount (tonally) to EMPIRE. He can add some pretty heavy vibes and slick direction to a stellar concept. If indeed the concept is stellar.
Team Fincher!!!

Fincher is my favorite director, but...
I'd be ok with this
