Star Wars will not be present at Comic Con but will appear at Disney's D23 Expo
Fans clamoring for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII news will be sad to learn that Disney and Lucasfilm are opting to not have a presence at next week's San Diego Comic Con. Instead, Disney will wait a few weeks and have their latest franchise acquisition as a centerpiece at their own D23 Expo in August. Nothing regarding EPISODE VII has been announced, but it would be an ideal time and place to do so.
Speculation is all over the place with theories on everything from an official title, cast announcements, or more at D23. All we know for now is that Disney will be premiering new information on their animated efforts PLANES and FROZEN. Non EPISODE VII related events include:
The bi-annual event, taking place Aug. 9-11 at the Anaheim Convention Center, will feature a strong STAR WARS presence, with Disney planning events like Darth Vader: The Evolution of a Villain, showing the development of the villain, to Crash Course in the Fourse: Star Wars Saga 101.
With STAR WARS: EPISODE VII entering production in 2014, there won't be another major event like Comic Con or D23 before set photos and other materials begin to leak onto the Internet. Disney would be smart to throw fans a bone in advance of filming which in turn may satiate the frenzy, at least for a short time.
The other side to that theory is J.J. Abrams shroud of secrecy on all of his projects. We didn't learn the title STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS until just before the trailers debuted. Abrams may not have much of a choice when it comes to STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, especially with how much money Disney is investing into the brand.
Stay tuned for news as it is revealed. STAR WARS: EPISODE VII will open in 2015.
