Steve Carell attached to sports comedy Lunatics, now officially attached to every movie

11.11.2011

Now I know why Steve Carell had to leave "The Office." He's attached to so many movies, there's no way he could do all that attaching while still attached to a TV show. Steve Carell, you are officially everywhere.

Carell is now attached to star in the sports comedy LUNATICS, based on the novel by humorists Dave Barry and Alan Zweibel. The film stars two New Jersey soccer dads whose feud on the field escalates into a real-world war. Carell would play Phillip Horkman, one of the dads who serves as a youth soccer referee and runs afoul of one of the kid's dads.

Among the many projects Carell has attached himself to are FOXCATCHER, the John Du Pont biopic, Joel Silver's CONVICTION, Charlie Kaufman's FRANK OR FRANCIS, the DreamWorks film RAISED BY WOLVES and THE ABSTINENCE TEACHER with Sandra Bullock. This is not to mention SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD, the comedy he just wrapped with Keira Knightley and BURT WONDERSTONE, the comedy with Jim Carrey he's about to start filming.

I like Carell - he's a funny and nice guy who worked very hard for his success and deserves all the good things coming to him - but it would be nice to see a little variety when it comes to comedy casting.

sounds somewhat like the soccer movie Kicking and Screaming with Will Ferrel, but I like Carell so I'm sure it will be funny. I would rather see an Anchor Man 2 than pretty much anything though!

He's smart he's cashing in on his popularity while he can. He knows it won't last forever.

Hold up...

Carell isn't attached to any future movies with James Franco, Jason Statham, Mark Wahlberg, and Will Farrell... so he can't possibly be attached to every movie - since those people are indeed attached to every movie in Hollywood.

Just sayin' :)

Steve is the same frickin person in every movie maybe a lil tweak here and there but thats it. if you have seen one Carrell comedy you have seen them all and if its dramatic its just him not sayin semi-funny stuff. i'm already bored with his shit and its only getting worse each movie. sorry SC lovers but it's the truth

Sometimes, we disagree. This is not one of those times. I am SO tired of Steve Carell.

Agreed about wanting to see him in more dramatic roles. That's why the project I'm most excited for on his slate is Foxcatcher, where he plays a mentally unstable millionaire.

Excited that he's getting work but...

He needs to be involved in more projects that he writes or at least have some sort of creative control (like 40 year old virgin, where had a story credit). When it comes to comedy, there are few more reliable than Steve Carrell, and Joel Silver is not one of those "few"

Agree with that last paragraph as well. id like to see him in more dramatic roles. Crazy Stupid love showed a bit of that in a way.

Agree totally with that last paragraph

I like the guy, he's made some great stuff over the years and seems like a genuine guy.

However he seems to have picked up Will Ferrall's "In every comedy film" ball and ran with it.
