Steve Martin returns to Disney for Magic Camp

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Steve Martin is looking to familiar ground for an upcoming project; the actor is in talks to star in the Disney feature film MAGIC CAMP. Martin’s first job was actually working at the Main Street Magic Shop at Disneyland; so this sounds like a passion project for the man. He also co-wrote the recent draft of the script with writer/director Stu Zicherman (A.C.O.D.). It would be nice to have Martin return the screen; his last effort was 2011's THE BIG YEAR; I can’t say I’ve met anyone who has seen or enjoyed that movie. So let's get him back!

Here is the plot description for MAGIC CAMP according to THR:

The story tells of a straight-laced banker who returns to Magic Camp, a camp he attended as a shy child. This time he is a counselor who makes it his mission to improve the lives of all the kids while keeping an eye on his ultimate prize, the top spot at the Golden Wand competition.

There isn’t a director in place just yet, but don’t be surprised if we see either Zicherman or Martin helm this near and dear project. Martin's last Disney movie was BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE which somehow managed to gross over $160 million and the FATHER OF THE BRIDE series before that; so it's safe to say the door has always been open for the legend to return. I love anything to do with magic so I'm already intrigued and look forward to hearing more about this one.
