Steven Spielberg wants Michael Bay to do another Transformers

12.05.2011

Even though he swore he was done, Michael Bay has been in talks with the studio about coming back for another TRANSFORMERS. The films are so immensely profitable, it's a no-brainer that they will keep being made, and obviously they'd like to keep the formula the same, and that means Bay.

Bay has been pushing back against this talk for a while, but a change seems to be in the air. First, Steven Spielberg talks about his thoughts on the matter to EW:

"I hope so, because I think he made the best of the three with this last one. I certainly can’t imagine anybody other than Michael being equipped to make another Transformers. He’s invented a genre and he’s got the secret formula."

And Michael Bay was asked a similar question at the opening of a Transformers theme park ride in Asia.

"How did I know someone’s going to ask me this question today? We’re talking about it, but there’s nothing right now. I’m going to do a tiny movie first, then we’ll talk about it, if I potentially do it."

"If I potentially do it" is a long way from "no" which is what we heard for a while now. Bay has made an insane amount of money from these films, and perhaps the paycheck would be too tempting. Maybe once he gets is "smaller" movie out of his system, he'll be back and ready to go again.

Extra Tidbit: Chevy is going to have to start inventing new cars just to fill the open spots in these movies.

I have no stake in Transformers, but if he said no, then the question would arise who COULD continue the franchise (since we all know it ain't going away). Michael Bay is like Tim Burton, a man with a distinct style that is near impossible to replicate. And he is both loved and reviled for that distinct style.

I actually think Michael Bay is the right man for the job. He knows how to make loud action movies that can be eye-popping at times and even chaotic. Bay knows how to handle action movie. I wouldn't be surprised if he returns for Transformers 4 although I'd like to see him make more action movies like The Rock again.

well, like it says in the article, itīs a no-brainer, the transformers make a lot of green, so itīs stupid to walk away from it. now, as far as spielberg is concerned, is opinion is what it is, he thought that T3 was the best, well, most of us i think will call him a gigantic moron of monstrous proportions, basically an idiot, and i think itīs an accurate description of spielberg. he has ruined so many movies, and to think that he likes transformers 3 to the point of saying it was the best of

nevertheless, even though i am rooting that no other transformers movie gets made, i think bay will take the gig again, i mean, why shouldnt he?

I too thought TF3 was the best (in a terrible franchise)

There is two Spielberg. The executive producer and the director.

The executive producer makes movies for money ->Transformer.

The director makes movies for fun -> Crystal Skull, or for artistic reasons -> Lincoln.

So here we have the executive producer talking and I understand what he's saying.

Very much enjoyed TF3...

Lots more to explore in the TF universe. They just need to dump Sam's character and start with some new faces.

Shut Up, Steven.

Michael Bay did a great job when he made the first Transformers, but the ones that followed were absolutely terrible. I don't know if Spielberg has even seen Transformers 3 because based on what I saw it was by far the worse in the trilogy. I would prefer if they left the franchise in more capable hands. Like, maybe, J.J. Abrams?

Completely agree. I really enjoyed the first movie, but the last two are just miserable.

The Bay!

As much as I'd like to see another Michael Bay/Transformers movie, I'd like to see him do more of "The Rock" type movie.

Michael Bay it seems to get too much money from these movies to continue to say no. While the movies were alright most of the time, it just feels kike something was missing so hopefully he can fix that in his future efforts. I want a good Transformers movie, not the ones we have had.

I saw the first one (like it a lot), but never saw 2 or 3 and didn't have an interest to do so.

Interesting the widely differing opinions on the 3rd. Everyone likes the first and hated the 2nd. Im in the camp of those that think the 3rd is the best of the series. That being said, do something else first then come back to it.

I just lost some respect for Spielberg. The guy is not concerned about quality. It seems he's more concerned about how much more they can bank in. People can bash Bay, but him turning down Transformers 4 proves he's still an artist. Even though the money is there, he wants to move on and make other/better films. Whereas Spielberg wants to stay to milk the cow.

I honestly think that would be pretty bad ass considering. Think of it. The story that explains cybertron and its civil war. Fuck cars turning into shit, give us crazy angry robots tearing each other up.

It's become too cool to hate these movies.

No one marks them as classics, just a good time at the movies.

i for one am pretty glad. i probably would have gone to see a 4th even if danny devito directed it. but i liked the 3rd as mindless nonsense, and i'm sure bay can make another good one. so many stories to choose from...even though 'story' isn't the operative word here. ha ha.

if someone's gonna make a fourth, i don't mind it being bay, i don't think he's the problem with the later installments. but i would prefer seeing something other than TF coming from him. The only thing we've gotten from him since 2005 is Transformers films. I too, like some others who commented below, want him to go back and make spectacle action films that don't necessarily feature robots. The Rock is a guilty pleasure of mine, so is Armageddon. meh, whatever..

Is Spielberg getting a little... nostalgic? Anyone here remember Jurassic Park? anyone? Oh.
Maybe they should combine forces once more and finally introduce the DINO-BOTS! eh? *wink* *wink*
For record, I hated the Dinobots as a kid and I still do.

This time listen to us

Less or no dumb humor.
No laboef.
No useless love interest.
No gigantic plotholes.
Less human interaction.
More robot interaction.
And finally a speaking bumblebee.
ILM can stay of course.

Hollywood has found a sure fire way to make money. It goes blockbuster, sequel(s), flame out and reboot. So I don't expect this to stop any time soon, there were six(?) fucking Saw movies!

My favorite part of the interview was when he flat out denied having anything to do with Megan Fox' "firing". He wants Michael Bay back but not enough to be part of his BS.

It's funny how one sided people are on here, they are being more cirtical of Spielberg now who is HELLO one of the greatest directors of our generation, obviously he sees something in this franchise others dont, he still gets that movies are for entertainment, for Gods sake let him do whatever the hell he wants, but don't bash him or say idiotic things like i LOST respect, thats just childish & you trying to look cool. As for another TF movie from Bay, ya sure bring it, I like these films &
