Strike Back below!
by: Dave Davis Sep. 5, 2007

Here's a dilemma: There's a talent strike supposedly on Holllywood's horizon, you have the rights to the STREET FIGHTER videogame property, and Paul WS Anderson and Uwe Boll don't have room on their schedules. Where the hell do you turn?

Obviously you go directly to unpronounceable cinematographer turned director Andrjez Bartkowiak, who last brought DOOM to theaters (along with lousy Jet Li and Steven Seagal movies). That's just what Fox and Hyde Park are doing with Capcom's perpetual game series, which will now apparently focus on leggy combatant Chun Li and her "journey for justice". One can assume many other characters from the game's expansive and high-haired roster will also appear and make exclamations like "Shoryuken!" while executing various kick-flurries, energy waves and overly complex combos.

The script for the live-action puncher comes from suddenly ubiquitous scribe Justin Marks (HE-MAN, VOLTRON, and that GREEN ARROW prison movie). The new movie will ignore the 1994 Van Damme flick, as so many other people have tried to do. Especially the estate of Raul Julia.

Extra Tidbit: I think I'll just watch the Sonny Chiba STREET FIGHTER movies instead. And maybe read some Cammy slashfic. Or write some...

Uhh....wasn't the last one more or less also about Chun Li's search for justice? At the very least that was one of the subplots going on...

Anyway, Doom was good at least, so....yeah.

Fuck the whole Street Fighter gang. Make a movie about those two chicks in the image, and I'm there opening day.

if they get jackie chan to play chun li again it would be badass

this could be ok if they try to focus on chun li and not try to squezze ever one of the 40+ charactors into a 100min movie. if the trailers look good ill watch it and if there is a scene like the one pictured above it couldnt hurt

dead?
Isn't this franchise kinda dead anyway? Not that anyone would have given a damn regardless.

One more movie to torture myself with added to the list.

It's true, studios have the memory of a 1 year old. I guess they forgot the bomb that was the first Street Fighter movie? I guess they're counting on us to forget, which in terms of the general public, will probably happen because face it, the masses are dumb.

My main problem is why they keep handing video game scripts to talentless directors, they'll never become respected this...

My main problem is why they keep handing video game scripts to talentless directors, they'll never become respected this way! Then again, no one else will take them because they keep making movies on games with no plot. Why damn you, why??

Aw, come on, the Van Damme version's great! I mean, you know, in a so-bad-it[link] kinda way.

Soldier: "A single boat against everything he's got? The pilot would have to be out of his mind."

Van Damme: "Luckily, Bison has driven me crazy ... so I'm going to do it."

Fucking classic!

Speaking of oxymorons
How about Microsoft Works? You know, the bundle of Word, Excel and.... yeah, you get the picture.

Err anyway... Street Fighter... meh, as with all video game movies (just about) if they do it right, cool, but when has that ever happened?

Talent Strike?
In Hollywood. Isn't that something akin to Military Intelligence? As in the definition of an oxymoron?

You don't need talent to make a Street-Fighter movie. They're making one for You-Tube right now.
