Stretch Armstrong?

When you hear about more jobs slashed daily as the global economy swirls the bowl, you can take comfort in knowing that millions of dollars will be dedicated to bringing goop-filled 70s toy STRETCH ARMSTRONG to life.

Universal is planning a big-budget live-action movie based on the nearly forgotten Hasbro/Kenner character (and his green nemesis, Stretch Monster), with writer Steve Oedekerk (BRUCE ALMIGHTY) now coming up with new and interesting ways for a curiously rubbery person to extend their limbs.

Not much else is known about the project except that it will aim for nostalgia and involve the extreme extension of body parts. A STRETCH feature has been in the works for over a decade, with Danny Devito, Tim Allen and Jackie Chan all once rumored to deform to great lengths.

Extra Tidbit: An estimated 60 different versions of STRETCH and his extended family (a-hyuck!), including Stretch X-Ray, Stretch Octopus, Stretch Ninja and Stretch Hulk, have been produced in different countries.

I can see potential here, but certainly this is not something I've been anticipating. I remember Stretch mostly because those toys didn't last long. And Owen Wilson would be perfect, but I'm not sure if that's a compliment.

Stretch Armstrong ... Owen Wilson?

I haven't seen a Stretch Armstong in AGES. Granted the idea of bringing back an old school toy like him as an action-hero in a movie would be cool. Looking at the toy now, and the fact that its going to be made by Bruce Almighty's Director.... Owen Wilson will proabably be playing his goofy/action-packed self in it.... hurray

I just remember those goofy commercials for the revamped Stretch back in the early-mid nineties, had no idea he was that old of a character. Turns out Action Man's older than I thought too. Now there's a toy that's well suited to a popcorn film.

ditto

wachowski's plastic man would have been simply awesome, but a superman reboot will be just as awesome (not that craptastic sequel singer made)

We use to have (1976-78?)a "Stretch Monster" Armstrong's counterpart was cool! But this film idea...ah? U know.
