Suicide Squad Director David Ayer Dubs Jared Leto's Joker "Majestic"

When THE DARK KNIGHT was in pre-production I recall seeing a blurry photo of Heath Ledger walking to the set in what appeared to be his Joker makeup. People went crazy, and not in a good way. “He looks nothing like the Joker, this is going to be awful” was the gist of it. Then the film came out and everyone found themselves blown away by his interpretation. Now the time has come for a new Joker and I dread having to go through that once again. This is why we can’t have nice things.

David Ayer will be directing the upcoming SUICIDE SQUAD in which Jared Leto will be stepping into the role of the clown prince of crime. David was recently asked on Twitter if he could describe Jared’s portrayal of the Joker in one word.

It’s certainly not the first word that pops into my head when I think of the Joker but colour me intrigued. Jared Leto (who recently discussed his preparations for the role) is definitely an interesting choice but I have no doubt he’ll leave an impression by giving us something very different.

SUICIDE SQUAD is set for an August 5th, 2015 release.

What's interesting is that there hasn't been much of a backlash if any against Leto's casting and I think it's because for the most part people have learned from the past where people flipped out that Keaton was going to be Batman, Ledger was going to be the Joker, etc. and then it worked out brilliantly. I'm honestly really glad they're doing a new version of the Joker so soon. I know it's already been 7 years since TDK but it had been 19 years since Batman '89 when Ledger's Joker came

I was afraid nobody would have the balls to try it again so soon but I can't wait. I think it will be very different than the one's we've seen before.

Jared Leto as the Joker seems like brilliant casting in my opinion. He's always been a bit "off" and he is a tremendous actor. I feel optimistic with the project.

There's a lot of ways you can play The Joker. Ledger worked brilliantly for Nolan's run on Batman, but with luck Leto will get to do something different again. He's such a brilliant character, The Joker really gives an actor a chance to give a film-stealing performance, and his presence in this has me more interested in a Suicide Squad movie than I might have been.

To me the Joker is suppossed to be sick, twisted & demented who has no remorse for his own actions, Ledger played that to near perfection & while I did enjoy Nicholson's take on him, I felt his was more comical than twisted, that's the Riddler, not the Joker. Heck even Cesar Romero's Joker had a twisted way about him even if a bit campy. Let's hope Leto can maybe either put his own twist on the Joker & not try to top any other versions already done.

I wonder

If they'll have him disfigured, like in his 'New52' iteration ?
And will they have Leto cut his hair ?
Anyway, I think he can make a great Joker, just as strangely charming as he is crazy...

He's no longer disfigured in the comics.

Definitely not my first choice for the role, but I think he'll do a fine job. I mean, I'm not expecting him to top Nicholson (who I enjoyed more in the role) and/or Ledger, but he will probably be the closest interpretation we will get to the character from the comics thus far (in my opinion).

As in arrogant? Pompous, theatrical, machiavellian? If he can pull that of it will help a lot. As long as he's also crazy. Don't know Leto's range as an actor, but he kind of looks like he could be good in the role.
