Yesterday on his Facebook, DREDD and "Bootleg Universe" shorts (The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, Power/Rangers, etc.) producer Adi Shankar announced that he will be producing a "super violent" Castlevania miniseries with Frederator Studios' (Adventure Time, The Fairly OddParents) Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde. Shankar says "It’s going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head."

Later, during a conversation with Collider, Adi Shankar shared a few additional details about the project. The producer says Frederator acquired the rights a few years ago, and that the story will be based on Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. He goes on to say there will be a lot of violence and gore, with the goal being "to bring hard hitting anime to the America and be America’s first animated series for adults," with an animation style influenced by the likes of Akira, Ghost in a Shell and Ninja Scroll. Shankar also says he will be planting Easter Eggs that only gamers will know, and that the music will "use the heavy metal electro guitar vibe found in the early games."

So there you go, Castlevania fans, an ultra violent miniseries based on the third installment in the video game franchise is in the works. Who knows what level of talent Shankar and company will be able to land for the project, but who would you like to see voice characters in the series?

I will watch this, I absolutely loved these games for NES and Super NES. Still hoping for a live adaptation though.

Awesome

Castlevania III is the first game in the original chronology of the series and probably the second best game in the series (behind "Symphony of the Night"). While I think that Castlevania really should be a pretty easy series to translate to a film franchise, and hope to see that done some day, this is still very cool news.

What a horrible night to have a curse...

I like this guy. He gets violence right and understands the source material of the stuff he produces. If there's an untapped universe with the potential for awesomeness it's absolutely Castlevania. Fingers crossed, this will be so good it will lead to an actual live-action movie. But please keep that hack Paul WS Anderson out of it... forever.

Your title made me happy. Simon's Quest couldn't compare to the utter glory that was Castlevania I or III (I don't know what it was about the second installment in NES series being the redheaded stepchild of the series... this, Zelda II, Super Mario Bros.2) but I still loved to play it nonetheless.

Just like "luke319". I have to chime in. Great to see that someone recognizes "Simon's Quest" for the NES. Brings back childhood memories. In my opinion "Simon's Quest" and "Symphony of the Night" were the best of the series. Glad to see a producer who gets it.

Oooh so now it's an animated series. Okay... So I guess the Paul WS Anderson project was scrapped? Or is that still on in development hell?
