Pre-production is already well underway for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (or whatever they end up calling it), with a brief flurry of villain casting rumors flying around last week but nothing substantial taking shape just yet.

And on that front, I'm sorry to say that we're still in the dark. But with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN currently out on DVD and Blu-ray (pick it up here), director Marc Webb has taken some time out of his day to tweet a few answers to questions about the upcoming sequel.  Here's what he had to say, taking on the subjects of Mary Jane, web shooters, and the writing process.

Spidey swings back into cinemas on May 2nd, 2014.

During the publicity for an upcoming re-release of his Ultimate Cut for WATCHMEN, which is about close to as far as you can get from Stan Lee's webslinging creation, Snyder in turn took the time to dish about his love and respect for Superman.  Unfortunately, that's about all there is to be found in this paragraph of comment - Snyder really (really) digs on Superman, and somehow manages to actually avoid using the descriptor of "awesome" in his comments.  Which means we get some interesting substitutes, including "king-daddy," that I don't think are actually any better really...

"It's a more serious version of Superman.  It’s not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously. I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you’re going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made. He’s the king-daddy. Honestly that’s why I wanted to do it. I’m interested in Superman because he’s the father of all superheroes. He’s this amazing ambassador for all superheroes. What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What we‘ve made as a film not only examines that but is also an amazing adventure story. It’s been an honor to work on. As a comic book fan, Superman is like the Rosetta Stone of all superheroes. I wanted to be sure the movie treated it respectfully."

MAN OF STEEL soars into cinemas June 14th, 2013.

Emma Stone and Amy Adams

Extra Tidbit: Hoping the next trailer for MAN OF STEEL drops this winter in front of THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY.

Everyone's talking about the "King Daddy" remark, but Mark Webb's "She's the jam!" is what cracked me up. Such a goofy phrase

I really dug the Spiderman costume, a darker blue and red than the Tobey one. I really hope they come up with a cool title for the second one, and not just "2." As for Superman, make him a little more hated, possible for the wreckages he's had caused or something in that facsimile. Then he'll feel mistreated and unwanted, then the world can root for him.

1) I think that Spidey costume could use a couple tweaks. Bigger eyes would definetly help, something like this: [link] (which is much closer to how his mask is i the comics)

2) The problem with Superman is that in most incarnations he's too perfect. It's hard to root for a guy who has no fundamental faults, and is never the underdog in a fight. Hopeully Snyder focuses on Superman's isolation/lonliness created by his slight superiority complex, otherwise he's going to be just as

Stone and Adams looking sultry next to each other...

Hmmm...I'd buy that for a dollar!!! Back on subject, look forward to more Spidey but with Superman Snyder can say what he wants but he'll have to win me back over after his steaming turd pile called "Sucker Punch". Also I'm not really about the 'realistic' take approach, it suited Batman's world but its not a fit for Superman, we'll see...
