SXSW 2011: A Complete Wrap-Up!

SXSW is officially over and our coverage here on JoBlo.com just about wrapped up. It was an insanely busy but insanely fun couple of days in Austin that almost immediately had me itching to return (if not for the movies, for the Tex-Mex at Chuy's).

There was a lot to love at SXSW including my personal favorite film at this year's festival, ATTACK THE BLOCK. I really had no idea what to expect from this screening as the SXSW screening was the first time the film had been seen by an audience and was largely an untested property. But that first midnight screening blew the roof off the Alamo Ritz and subsequent screenings of the film were almost impossible to get into.

While I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot about ATTACK THE BLOCK in the months to come (a film I'm sure will make an appearance at Comic-Con), you'll also be hearing a lot about BRIDESMAIDS, the upcoming Judd Apatow-produced comedy with Kristen Wiig starring. It's no ordinary chick flick, I'll tell you that.

In addition to the films, I was also lucky enough to moderate a panel with Paul Reubens where we discussed the life of Pee-wee Herman for over an hour. Only after the panel would I learn that there were hundreds of people sitting on the floor outside our room watching our conversation on closed circuit television.

It was a great time with great friends, great food and most importantly some great movies. Check out a full recap of our coverage below!

HOSTING "A CONVERSATION WITH PAUL REUBENS"

"A few weeks ago I got an e-mail as tantalizing as it was brief: 'Would you like to moderate a panel with Paul Reubens at SXSW?' I had seen the schedule a few days early and one of the big highlights for me was the ability to see the creator behind Pee-wee Herman speaking in a public forum as Paul Reubens; something I had never seen before. And now to be invite to lead that discussion? I was honored, excited, humbled and nervous all at the same time..."

SXSW INTERVIEWS

"I was able to sit down with director Duncan Jones and star Jake Gyllenhall to talk about the film's reception at SXSW, adapting the script and working in the complex sci-fi world of the film..."

---

"The day after ATTACK THE BLOCK's premiere at SXSW, I had the chance to sit down with the film's writer/director Joe Cornish...We had to dance around a lot of spoilers but we talked about casting kids with no acting experience as his leads, working with producer Edgar Wright and the inspiration for his 80s monster movie throwback."

Can't wait to check out most of these movies, especially The Source Code and Super.

I don't undestand the whole Pee Wee Herman fascination.
