SyFy announces Sharknado sequel

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

You knew it was inevitable.

With the viral success of last weeks SHARKNADO there was never any doubt SyFy would move forward with a sequel, and earlier today a press release went out confirming that SHARKNADO 2 is indeed in the works. And while the first film saw the City of Angels being overrun by flying maneaters from the deep, the sequel will take place on the other coast with New York playing host to the terror.

Syfy's Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies, Thomas Vitale said in a statement:

"Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year."

Syfy also announced a special Twitter contest to help name the movie with an appropriate subtitle. Fans will be able to tweet their subtitle to @SyfyMovies using #Sharknado. Syfy will select the best submission as the subtitle for Sharknado 2.

And if you missed it the first time around, SyFy will once again air SHARKNADO tomorrow night at 7pm/e.
