Sylvester Stallone confirms the return of Wesley Snipes in The Expendables 3

Apr. 15, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Last week, Sylvester Stallone sent out a Tweet fishing for some feedback about actor/director Mel Gibson taking the reins of THE EXPENDABLES 3, which stirred a lot of pros and cons, with most of the cons being that Mel was "above" the material. Yesterday, Stallone followed up with his feelings on Mel as a contender to direct the film and also confirmed the return of Wesley Snipes, who was just released from prison after serving 28 months of a 3-year sentence for tax evasion. Sly confirmed the addition of Snipes via the same thread as the Mel Gibson Tweet, which you can see below:

Stallone's follow-up Tweet about Gibson's involvement confirmed that the actor/director is not yet a lock for the film, but a longshot. However, he seems confident that anything could happen. For Stallone, who has been in the industry long enough to see the good and the bad happen unexpectedly, I like to think that he has the right level of expectation. Personally, I think Mel taking on THE EXPENDABLES 3 would be a great move, especially since no one is really returning his calls these days. It could be the shot he needs to get some traction on many of the other projects he's been developing throughot the last few years.

All of that goes double for Snipes. A theatrical release with some of his big-screen compadres is just what the career doctor ordered, I'd say.

No word on a start date for THE EXPENDABLES 3 and a lot of names have been tossed about, confirmed, unconfirmed, etc., so it's hard to get a grasp on just who's in and who's out. An official announcement will clear all that right up. Stallone will next be seen in ESCAPE PLAN with Arnold Schwarzenegger on September 13, 2013, John Herzfeld's REACH ME with Lauren Cohan, and GRUDGE MATCH with Robert De Niro (2014). Snipes last film was GALLOWWALKERS, and Mel Gibson will next be seen as the lead villain in Robert Rodriguez's MACHETE KILLS on September 13, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Do you think Snipes can find his way back to the A-List or is he doomed to DTV?

Snipes is going to karate chop the shit out of whoever's going to be the bad or good guy.

Im calling it now. Snipes will play the bad guy on this one. He hasn't done a good villain role in a while and would be a great choice as someone for the guys to face off against this time. As for mel Gibson, he still works though it could be interesting if he is their new client hiring them to deal with an issue involving a terrorist network controlled by Wesley snipes played character.

Now we just need to wait until McTiernan gets out and takes a stab at this franchise! We would finally have a balls-to-the-wall R-rated Expendables!

Spartan v/s Phoenix: The Rematch

Although I'd really like that to happen, I would rather have Wesley Snipes as the good guy. Trust me, he needs the career longevity that franchises give actors. Especially since Blade's gone back to Marvel, and R-rated is not in their vocabulary.

Great news, hope they get Mel - Stallone won't be able to push him around. Could be good for all involved. As for the tidbit, I don't think any of them can really return to the A-list. I'm just happy to see them in ensemble films like this.

YES!

Just the addition the franchise needs and just the role that Snipes could do with.

It's got a long way to go to be any bigger than Ex2, but if they get Gibson as well then they're well on their way. I have a feeling this is where Stallone bows out of the franchise, leaving future installments for the Couture's, Statham's and Crewe's.

If I were writing it, I'd have Mickey Rourke's character return for a big death scene, opening the movie with him in his garage/tattoo parlour when it comes

We never saw that character get into any action, and he was sorely missing in Ex2's bar scene. At least Jet Li bowed out on screen.

Snipes would be great - but the biggest star I want in the sequel is real motherfucking squibs for blood.

The Expendables franchise would be elevated to a whole new if Gibson directed. Gibson is a power house filmmaker, and it's hard to picture him directing a tongue-in-cheek 80's throwback film. Though Gibson's career is in the toilet right now, so maybe him directing Expendables 3 isn't such a long shot. All I can say is, if he did direct it I would be in line opening day.

Also, Snipes is a great addition to this film!

I'm thrilled Snipes is out and back to work, since he really is a good actor. As far as Expendables go, he's higher up on the food chain still, but I don't think he's going to climb his way out of the DTV gutter unless he can find the right project to capitalize on his dramatic chops (probably in a supporting role, for now anyway). He's good at action, but that can only get you so far, and he's no spring chicken anymore. Makes him perfect for Expendables, not necessarily for the A-list.

Welcome back Snipes. And this is just the movie to make a comeback to. I'm just hoping he is the bad guy in the film.

wonder what they'll do with him?

WIll Snipes be another member of the team, or maybe their new foe? KInda hopin he's the next villain, it did wonders for Van Damme and would set up another helluva fight between him and Stallone.
