Sylvester Stallone to breakout once again in Escape Plan 2

Sylvester Stallone Arnold Schwarzenegger Escape Plan 2

Several years ago Sylvester Stallone starred in ESCAPE PLAN as Ray Breslin, a consultant for the Federal Bureau of Prisons who used his talents to test the efficiency and escapability of America's most secure prisons. After finding himself framed and incarcerated in The Tomb, an escape-proof prison which was built based on Breslin's ideas, he orchestrates an escape in an attempt find the person who put him behind bars. Personally, I found the film to be fairly entertaining, although largely forgettable, and thanks to a strong international box-office, it appears that Sylvester Stallone will have yet another opportunity to break out of prison.

Deadline reports that Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films have green-lit a sequel to ESCAPE PLAN and that Sylvester Stallone will be back to reprise his role of Ray Breslin, although this time it will be in a supporting capacity rather than a leading role. ESCAPE PLAN didn't exactly bring in the big bucks domestically ($25 million), but it fared much better overseas and part of the reason why we're even getting a sequel is that a major Chinese component will be involved in its financing. Miles Chaplan, who worked on the first screenplay, will also be returning to pen the script for ESCAPE PLAN 2. Pre-production is set to get underway on January 15th with shooting kicking off by March 15th in both China and Ohio. At this point it's not known whether Arnold Schwarzenegger, who played a fellow prisoner who assisted Breslin with his escape, will be returning as well, but somehow I doubt it.

Any thoughts on the ESCAPE PLAN sequel? Who would you like to see team up with Stallone this time?

Escape Plan was merely okay. It had too many unrealistic elements for me to get into it. However, Escape Plan 2 might work. Normally, Sylvester Stallone is hit-and-miss when milking his past vehicles. So, Escape Plan 2 might be good (or bad). Normally, Chinese investment limits American art too greatly. However, the planned outside involvement could also bring some originality to Escape Plan 2 and thereby elevate the sequel. Obviously, producers can sometimes have a positive influence on cinema

You hit like a vegetarian

I enjoyed the first film. It wasn't great and seemed kinda like a rehash of another Stallone film Tango and Cash, but it was fun. Hopefully Arnold comes back.

China is just going to own us all one day..they've started with the lowest common denominator and will work their way up

Awesome

I loved the first movie. It's a movie that I always end up watching again and again. I have wished they made a sequel. Arnold or Curtis needs to come back as well.

The main appeal of the first one was having Sly and Arnold do a movie together, outside of Arnold's Expendables cameos. I don't think they can get someone else quite as interesting to make this sequel a good idea. Maybe Liam Neeson?

This has been a thing that's bothered me for years. Sly had the glimmer of a serious acting career in the '70s and early '80s, and then again with Cop Land, and he was always at his best with the gritty dramatic moments (less so the comic one-liners). The man's responsible for some pretty successful franchises, but even he thinks Rocky's the one really good thing he ever did.

Arnold was the best part of the first one, so hopefully he returns as well along with Stallone.

Stallone. This guy is awesome. He's already got 3 franchises, and now he's working on a fourth.

I enjoyed the first one! Can see this being a strait to DVD flick tho and I would hate to see Stallone reduced to van damm type crap fests.

I think Stallones box office success internationally will keep him afloat. At least above a straight to DVD flick.
