‘Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance’ gonna be remade in the U.S.

Chan-Wook Park probably thought he could breathe easy after the plug was pulled on the proposed Will Smith remake of OLDBOY. But as one remake opportunity ends, another begins. Warner Bros. has acquired the remake rights to Park’s SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE for producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (GI JOE).

MR. VENGEANCE is the first film in the so-called “Vengeance Trilogy,” which also features the aforementioned OLDBOY and SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE. The film is tough to wrap up in just a quick logline but basically follows two men out for vengeance for the death of their loved one. The catch? They’re both seeking each other. WB has set Brian Tucker (who doesn’t have much at all on his resume at this point) to write the script.

Is it slightly weird that all three parts of the Vengeance Trilogy could be remade, but separately, here in the US?
