Take a look at a blue Michael Rooker as Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy

07.09.2014by:

If you watched the extended trailer for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY you might have seen Michael Rooker’s character Yondu. If you blinked and missed him, we have a pair of new images that show off the blue alien. USA Today gave us the images and provided some interesting details about the character. These details could be spoilers for those hoping to go into the movie fresh, so spoiler warning after the images.

**POTENTIAL SPOILERY DETAILS**

In the film version, Yondu will act as a sort of surrogate father for Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who was taken from Earth after a tragedy and raised among Yondu’s “Ravagers” gang. The father-son duo eventually scheme to steal a magical orb, setting the film’s story in motion.

Rooker described their relationship:

“He’s feeling lost, vulnerable, defeated, emotionally drained and hurt, and here is Yondu in this light coming down and brings him up into the spacecraft and takes him away. It might have been pretty horrific, but also a bit cool.”

And as for Yondu:

“[He has] some interesting issues — not a good guy, not a bad guy. There’s hope and there’s a heart inside Yondu. It’s not so black and white — I should say blue and white. And I enjoy roles that are like that, even if they’re not in some galaxy somewhere other than ours.”

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY opens August 1st 2014.

LOL, I mean, REALLY?!

@Conz -- Have you seen the movie? Do you know this to be the case? Pretty stupid reason to vote negative on this, particularly considering it's all completely out of context for those looking at it -- you have no idea the reasoning for such. Because it's more than safe to say that if ANYone on James Gunn's team saw that his ACTUAL skin was ACTUALLY bleeding through, that the person in charge of fixing as much would've done so. To assume it's an oversight or shoddily done is ignorant.

@DaForce - you know when they first said they would do Guardians I thought it would be the classic guys. I don't know the current team as well. The classic guys were wicked though. They would appear in Marvel Two In One all the time!
But this movie looks like a lot of fun anyway, so I'm on board!

Looking at the ridge on his head, I'm wondering if it will flair out into the full fin at some point like the comicbook version of Yondu. Also, since Yondu was an original member of the Guardians of the Galaxy (from the 1969 run and again in the 1990-1995 run), if that will be brought up, or if he's just an easter egg to those fans that are in the know.

I'm on my phone looking at this. So his "skin" is kind of growing up to his mohawk? That's cool. Is the mohawk his hair? The only comment I've really got is I think his facial hair looks silly, especially when the hair on top of his head isn't blue. But it isn't enough to lower my excitement

I'm sure that's accurate to the comic...

but i'm not sure they wouldn't be a bottom look on a random episode of Face Off. the top pic looks like his actual skin color is bleeding through

Looks cool! He's a good actor too!
Shouldn't his Mohawk be bigger though? Anyway, still looks cool.
