Take a look at the villains of The Lone Ranger in these character posters featuring Tom Wilkinson and William Fichtner

Apr. 12, 2013by: Paul Shirey

So far, we've had plenty of footage and images of the titular star and his compadre for THE LONE RANGER, with stars Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as THE LONE RANGER front and center with the marketing push. However, there's been little-to-nothing in terms fo the film's villains. Until now.

Today, we have our first look at two character posters featuring Tom Wilkinson as Latham Cole and William Fichtner as Butch Cavendish, the primary baddies for the western throwback. Both actors have a great level of charm and intensity that fit this genre well. Fichtner shows up everywhere (THE DARK KNIGHT, ARMAGEDDON, Call of Duty, Entourage, etc.) and Wilkinson is a reliable chap that always turns in a garden variety of performances, be it as a good guy (THE LAST KISS), bad guy (BATMAN BEGINS), nazi (VALKYRIE), crazy guy (MICHAEL CLAYTON), crossdresser (NORMAL), priest (THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE), secret agent (THE DEBT), or dead secret agent (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL).

Take a look:

As I've stated before, THE LONE RANGER has flown low on my radar, but every time it pops back up I get a little bit more excited for it. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. It's not going to revolutionize summer blockbusters, but in Jerry Bruckheimer/Gore Verbinski/Johnny Depp I trust to deliver a good show, even if it's bloated, silly, and over-the-top. I'm not expecting UNFORGIVEN here.

THE LONE RANGER rides off into the sunset on July 3, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Interesting that both Fichtner and Wilkinson were both in The Dark Knight trilogy. I'm sure they had a few stories to share on the set of The Lone Ranger.

Wilkinson was the Secretary of Defence in MI-GP, not a spy...
Curious about the movie, but not excited like with most of other summer blockbusters

Good westerns are few and far between these days, so any, including big blockbuster ones like these, always have me interested. At the very least it has to be better than Wild Wild West.

I always see all the major tentpole movies but

There is always one or two a year that I couldnt care less if I did not see them, and if I do it seems to be more of a chore to sit through the full 2h45 mins. Recent culprits are pirates 2-3-4. Prince of Persia and now this. Im noticing a trend in terms of the kinds of movies. Pls Jerry. Go back to your awesome blockbuster days. We All miss them.

Seeing this for Fitchner

The dude is a badass. I don't really care for this movie, but the moment I saw WF in character I knew it was a must see.

Most people I know don't seem to be terribly interested in this, but I remember the same kind of low excitement for Pirates and it ended up being fantastic. I think this may have more pressure to be the same, especially since I think there may be slightly higher expectations due to the fact that Pirates was based on a Disney park ride and this is based on a beloved TV show. However, I am holding out hope this will be a fun ride and a decent summer popcorn flick.
