Take up your sword and watch the trailer for Takashi Miike's 13 Assassins

Mar. 25, 2011by: Niki Stephens

If Takashi Miike makes a film, you want to see it. AUDITION still makes me cringe, I think about SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANGO at least once a week, and watching ICHI THE KILLER should be made mandatory.

Miike has made many, memorable films and he is adding another one to the list. The trailer for 13 ASSASSINS has arrived today. What's the verdict? F*cking awesome, as if you should expect anything less. I love an excellent Samurai tale and can't wait to see this one.

Check out the trailer below. If you want to see it in HD, visit Apple Trailers. The film releases April 29th, 2011.

Wow. This looks like it could be one of Miike's best films. It certainly seems a lot more serious and well made than most of the films he's known for.
Although I wonder how many rape scenes Miike is going to put in this movie...
I'm guessing three.

FINALLY. I have been waiting for this movie since last year. I'm glad it's coming to the U.S. The last Miike film I remember really enjoying was Crows Zero II, so it will be good to see this film come to these shores. Looking forward to it.

As for my favorite, I would have to argue Crows Zero I. It's his biggest and best mainstream release and really is a great film and the best manga adaptation to film I have ever seen.

@Brundle Hahah I recall one. But there could have been more, I saw this at TIFF in a day filled mostly with awesome films (the awesome ones being Black Swan, Rabbit Hole, Insidious, and this, the mediocre one being Rare Exports) which made it a bit of a blur.

This is Takashi Miike at his most restrained - which doesn't mean his style isn't there, it's all definitely there and the film has its share of disturbing shit in the first half. But he's restrained himself enough that this is probably

But he's restrained himself enough that this is probably his most accessible film - and a phenomenal one at that. It's definitely the best Miike film I've seen although I'm still missing large chunks of his filmography.

This is definitely a must-watch for anyone who like samurai films and epic action. First half of the film is an engrossing build-up and the second half is the best action sequence I saw all last year.

One of my favorite directors. Hard to pick just one:
Ichi? Fudoh? Dead or Alive? Visitor Q? Zebraman? Sigh.

I hate Miike flicks

But I'll reserve judgement on this project for now.

I've only seen Dead or Alive, and while that movie is full of raw energy, the ending just about destroyed my mind. I've been meaning to check out Ichi and Audition, as they seem to be considered his best. This looks a little more...mainstream? But badass, definitely.

Wow

This looks absolutely amazing and I'm not even a big Takashi Miike fan. One of the few contemporary samurai films I've seen that seems to actually capture the feel of a Kirosawa...
