Tarantino loves Supes?

05.04.2009

Quentin Tarantino gave an interview to the New York Times in advance of his INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS debut in Cannes and in between calling his latest film a "masterpiece" and posing for photos in high heels, he took time out to lavish praise on Superman. Quentin was asked who won Best Director at Cannes when he was the jury head said it was Bryan Singer for SUPERMAN RETURNS. He said that he's a "big fan" of the much maligned 2004 flick and to prove it, he's working on a review that's as epic as the film itself.

As if he doesn't already have enough to do, Tarantino said he's working on a review of the film that currently checks in at a whopping 20 pages. And he adds, "I'm not done yet." (Oddly enough, the film barely moved me enough to write a 900-word review.) No word on where or if this massive dissertation will ever be published but if Quentin's got such adoration, isn't it high time he tried the superhero genre himself?

You can read the full interview for yourself at the Times' Style Magazine.

+5 Tarantino

I saw superman returns three times in theaters. If it get's a "dark and gritty" reboot I might just kill myself. It was the perfect balance of bringing back the nostalgic feeling of superman while bringing it into the new century. +that scene where the plane falls FROM FU**ING SPACE.

Fuck Warner Brothers.

It was awesome

SR was great. it was easily one of the most entertaining movies that came out that summer. it was action packed, interesting story, and pretty emotional. I think its around 75% on rottentomatoes. just cuz the studio didnt like it cuz it didnt make 300 million doesnt mean that fans shouldnt like it, i thought it was great.

"Which superhero would best fit Tarantino's style?" My brother recently answered this question... THE answer is Power Man and Iron Fist. No question, he'd kill with that.

And for the record, "Superman Returns" was good. The only problem is that it needs a sequel to pick up and carry on the story that it introduced... I guess, the only real problem is that it re-introduced a character that EVERYbody already knows. It would've probably been more successful if they'd just cut to some new

It would've probably been more successful if they'd just cut to some new Superman business, instead of rebooting (which, unfortunately, they now want to do AGAIN!) But as a retelling of the Superman story, with some nice new effects, I thought it was pretty good.

Superman Returns was just an utter mess. Bad FX and contradicting plots - the whole cryptonite island didn't make sense.

Anyways - I think a DeadPool movie would fit QT.
The smart ass remarks and fucked up character would be perfect.

THE BOYS

Trendkill24hour is spot on, the Boys would rule with Tarantino directing and Simon Pegg as Hughie. The rest of "the boys" would definitely be cast in interesting ways if tarantino was at the helm- Speaking of Ennis, a tarantino "Preacher" would be awesome too, but it would have to be at least a trilogy to do it justice... a miniseries would probably be best.

i didnt know...

so many people actually liked superman returns. i remember back when it first came out people gave the film so much shit which i believed it didnt deserve (i enjoyed the film quite a bit). i thought it was a relatively good reboot of the series. yes its not better than supes 1 and 2, but i thought it help get the franchise back on track and i was all hyped up for a sequel. i hope some how WB could get singer back on board for man of steel (whenever they plan to official make the film). HELL YEAH!!!

Superman Returns has been number 4 on my favorite movies list for the longest time and im so happy that someone is stickin up for it. That film moved me so much when I saw it in theaters that i actually went back and saw it 4 more times...5 in total. Best superhero film ever in my opinion. Dark Knight being 2. Spiderman flicks suck. Superman R is only beaten by LOTR for me and competes with Its a wonderful life, cool hand luke, butch and sundance, goodfellas, the sting and maybe a few others

I'd like to see Tarantino tackle Spawn. Its an easy target as any movie would be better than that first shady attempt. I still say Bastards is gonna suck, big time. Here hoping I'm wrong.

THe best hero for QT to do by FAR, is "Just a Pilgrim". Google it, if you don't believe me. The stories were a trip and a half. After that, I'd say a toss-up between "Pitt" and a new "Spawn".

QT's superhero flick?

Because i have no life, I've thought about this before. I think Luke Cage would be a good fit for his style, but ofcourse I'd also like to see his version of a more popular character, maybe one of the x-men. Hell I'm sure his version of Wolverine would have been a hell of a lot better then the one that was just put out.

He's good with strong women characters so maybe he'd be the first director to make a decent superhero movie from one of the existing female comic characters. Wonder

It would be best if he tackled a comic book movie that was rated R, no doubt. Maybe he could be the one to finally get the punisher right. Yeah, I think he could. Punisher!

Is there any comic book hero that would be a perfect fit for QT more than The Punisher. They already screwed it up twice... what's another reboot? The violence, the grittiness, the revenge, the violence... it's like Kill Bill all over again, but, if The Bride used less martial arts and had a penis.

He'd do justice to...if all rated R...

Elektra
Deadpool
Captain America
Fool-Killer
Punisher
House of M
Black Panther
Doc Doom

There's really so many...and I'm just hitting the Marvel side here, that he could polish into something great.

its that simple. He can make a crazy dark haunting world around daredevil and really do kingpin, bullseye and the rest of daredevils universe with style. Daredevil would be the only story i can see him doing justice too.

You know, except for that damn kid, Superman Returns was a little bit of alright. Not a classic, but a pretty good solid Superman flick. Still, I'm rather curious to know what QT saw in it that inspired over 20 pages of critical discourse.

Starjammers.

Why? Because they're the only comic I could care less about if it gets screwed up, and QT would screw up ANY comic book movie by insisting on adding something stupid to the mix. Also, Starjammers is from the 1970's, QT is stuck in the 1970's, and Starjammers steals from a bunch of scifi movies, and QT steals from a bunch of movies already so it's a match made in hackneyed heaven.

Frankly, I'd rather have QT on his own pet projects rather than ruining a character just because

Tarintino is definitely a little insane. Superman Returns fucking sucked. Singer did nothing at all to "reboot" the franchise. He merely tried his hardest to make it as much like the Reeves superman films, while making it a bit more modern and changing superman's red to maroon and no longer american.

Unlike most of the people I know, I really liked Superman Returns. I'd love to see a 100 Bullets miniseries on Showtime or HBO or something, with an episode or two directed by Tarantino. It'd be cool to see him do a version of "White Death" as well, or "The Filth" (that'd just be totally fucking crazy though).

Wasn't Superman Returns in 2006?

Anyway, in a Top 3 situation, it would be [3] Deadpool [2] Daredevil remake [1] Moonknight. Seriously, Moonknight would be a good shot. The character's head is just crazy messed-up. Just the kind of material Quention should work with.

Or heck, take Superman. I would LOVE to see what Quentin does with a character as legendary and epic as the man of steel.
