We currently have no idea how exactly the Martin Campbell/Ryan Reynolds version of GREEN LANTERN is going to play out, but in imagination fantasy land, the project could have gone a very different direction. In a recent chat with MTV, Quentin Tarantino revealed that that the project was initially offered to him. Say whaaa?

"I was offered the 'Green Lantern,' " Tarantino told MTV News. "Not since it's been a script, but just like, 'Hey we own the 'Green Lantern.' Would you like it?'"

"So there's a little part of me that's like, 'Wow, if I was in my 20s, this would be the genre I'd want to specialize in," he said. "But they weren't making them then, or at least not the right ones. But there also is an aspect where I've kind of outgrown that a little bit."

I think Green Lantern and Tarantino go together like cider and dump trucks, but the man has been known the take on some pretty out there stuff. However, he’s more original than well, everyone else in Hollywood these days, so if he ever did take on a superhero project, it would be on his own terms.

"It wouldn't be an existing comic book character," he said. "I'm a writer. I'd want to use my imagination and not have to fight with geeks' memories of how this character should be and, 'Oh, I cast an actor as opposed to a bodybuilder' or it's not as good as the way [DC Comics artist] Neal Adams drew him.' If I were to do something like that, I would want the fun of coming up with the superhero myself."

An original Tarantino superhero? Now THAT would be worthwhile. Time to start writing Quentin.

Glad he isnt doing it
I think if Tarantino is like a producer, etc ....then ok, but I dont see him directoring a superhero movie...he should maybe sometime create his own superhero movie...

Tarantino's GL: No Bystanders Alive!
GL would have a terrible time with the Ring. All the wrong people would get killed, and we start to agree with Sinestro.

It would take 15 years for it to come out, it would have taken scenes from every low budget Japanese movie out there, and somewhere in the movie would be a closeup shot of Uma Thurman's big, ugly, gnarly feet.

Oh, and it would be 6 hours long, with only 30 minutes of the movie having anything to actually do with the story.

Go ahead, flame away. But deep down you...

i don't know who he'd cast as the lead but I'd put money on him casting Harvey Keitel as Sinestro. That could be interesting...

However, he’s more original than well, everyone else in Hollywood these days.

Really??? Almost everything I've seen him do is either a remake or a stolen idea from a Japanese movie. Wow, if that's original then we should all be in Hollywood making movies. It amazes me that he has such a cult following at all. Oh yeah, guns and drugs do sell tickets not a story. Duh.

Call me a fangirl, but Tarantino is one of the few people I really, really trust with movies. I either desperately love or at least really like anything he's ever done. So whatever he does next, I'm first in line to buy that ticket.

A thought...
Someone with the cult following as QT should probably put out a series of short stories which sets up the premise/universe for the superhero. Allow fanboys to lap it up and then make the movie. It will help avoid Vol 1, 2 and 3 which become necessary to set up the reference point for a brand new superhero.

When I say short story, I do mean non-illustrated prose. That way he would...

Am just sayin...

Tarantino would be one of the few director's I trust with creating his own comic book hero/movie; the best so far would be M Night's Unbreakable. I just can't imagine him working on GL at all, Cambell seems better suited for this.

Extra tidbit: If he made it earlier on, Tim Roth or maybe Michael Madsen. If he made it now, I couldnt even venture a guess, but considering his last 3 leads were Uma Thurman, Kurt Russel and Brad Pitt I wouldnt put to much stock in the cynical answers of Samuel L Jackson and Eli Roth (although they would definitely would find parts just not the lead)

I think QT is very capable...

I think QT is very capable of taking a very specialized genre such as "superhero" and really taking advantage of what it does best. Green Lantern might not be the project for him, but I could see him tackle any of the Marvel Knights.

I'd rather see an original superhero work from him.

OMFG
If he ever did a superhero movie, well, I'd die. Too bad he's never ever expressed any interest whatsoever in the genre. He still needs to come up with that role for Britney Spears and goddamn it she could be the love interest/super villain.

I liked Death Proof
One can only speculate about the awesomeness of a Tarantino superhero film, but one thing is clear. It would be awesome!

Yes this is exactly what we need. A Green Lantern movie full of completely unnecessary and agonizingly long pointless dialogue that has nothing to do with anything going on in the movie. I can't stand Tarantino. I have no idea why he's idolized so much. Deathproof shows that not everything he touches turns out good or even enjoyable.

The only problem with your argument is that you can't take a few duds from a director (that you like and dislike) and use them against them. For example, Francis Ford Coppola made 'Jack' with Robin Williams.

Also, QT made Inglourious Basterds which was well liked. I'm not saying that you should like his movies, but I hope you know what I'm saying.

Meh...
QT has said on numerous occasions that he'd never wanna do a comic book film because of trying to appease the fans and because he'd prefer to create his own, but I guess this might be news for most.

The Green Lantern producers were seemingly approaching anyone and everyone about this project since they didn't really have an idea of the best way to approach it. Fuck, they even auditioned Justin Timberlake and seriously considered him. Dear God....

With that said, Tarantino should TOTALLY do his own superhero film. Grant it, it'd be the most conversation driven superhero film ever made, but it'd still be epic.

Best. Idea. Ever.
Tarantino creating his own superhero... That would be beyond awesome. I cant see him doing Green Lantern, but then this guy constantly surprises me.I'm down for whatever he's got coming...

'Oh, I cast an actor as opposed to a bodybuilder'
Tarantino is brilliant, not only for respecting that comics is not a genre for someone of his age, but how fans of a superhero always want some buff actor to play their hero.

Actually, its been in my experience that fanboys never wanna past buff actors, but they always wanna cast Oscar winners.

Ex. "The only person who can replace Heath Ledger as The Joker is Daniel Day-Lewis!" Yeah, good luck with that one...

I'm glad (though I like Tarantino as a Director)he had little interest in the Green Lantern project. The super hero characters need to be handled IMO,with reverence like any antiquity.
