Strike Back below!
by: Dave Davis Dec. 14, 2009

It's crawling toward the end of the year (and another whole decade shot to hell), and everyone's putting together their own "Best of" lists, including someone as knowledgeable and talkative as Quentin Tarantino.

The garrulous filmmaker runs down his Tops for 2009 with THR's Heat Vision blog, but despite the caveat of not seeing a few late-year biggies, only manages to come up with 8 movies to make a list.

See what QT dug below, and see if you agree.

Extra Tidbit: Some of those I'm down with, but really -- no HURT LOCKER? No DISTRICT 9? No G-FORCE?

WOW
I didn't think I could love Tarantino anymore, but then he went and named Star Trek above all others. Sweet, sweet vindication. Please, Oscar, boldly go there.

Moon was awesome, but D9 was seriously overrated, his own basterds was, and the hurt locker is extremely popular amongst people who haven't the slightest clue what its REALLY like in Iraq, i loved hurt locker, but strictly as an action movie, its cheesy as hell.

everyone on joblo can pretty much agree on Inglorious Basterds, District 9, Moon and the Hurt Locker. Anything after that is going to be your own personal taste.

ps -the guy below me is retarded.

Not Bad
Drag me to Hell, Star Trek, Observe & Report are all definitely on my list. Of course Inglourious Basterds is up there as well.

I liked Tarantio's list much more than the AFI top ten list. I don't agree with Funny People and Prescious, I personally didn't like those movies. However for the most Part I really like Tarantino's list.

Opinions
You know, most people today that take the time to comment on someone elses opinions are so self-righteous and stubborn that they can't stand back and look at it from someone elses point of view. Opinions and discussions would be so much better, and less wars fought, if people respected an opinion whether or not they liked it and offered a rebuttle rather than a put down.

FUNNY PEOPLE ? No HURT LOCKER or MOON, but FUNNY PEOPLE. I know he didnt just say FUNNY PEOPLE, infact the fact that this film is on the list totally disqualifies this from being of any importance. C'mon Quentin, your fucking with us on that pick, right ?

Pleasantly surprised "Observe and Report" made the list. It's one of my favorites of the year, too, but not too many others it seems.

Gotta hand it to Quentin...

I'm surprised Precious and An Education made HIS list. As for the rest I'm not surprised and I'm very happy that Funny People and Observe and Report made the list. You have to love some Seth Rogen !

Peace.

Good list, although a bit surprising. Never figured Observe and Report to be a movie worth seing. Now I have to see it.

One quick note: the decade isn't over. 2010 is part of it. :D

Technically speaking the decaded goes from 2001 to 2010, because the first decade was from year 1 to 10. But nowadays we all agree to say a decade begins with the 0, even if we are wrong.

No it's not. 1990 wasn't part of the 80's and 2000 wasn't part of the 90's. 2000-2009, is ten years, or, if you prefer, a DECADE.

He needs to see District 9 again to see if it makes his list? With Star Trek on there I lost any respect I had left for this guy. (And what is going on with Q's hair?)

The only thing I have to say is nice avatar. I spoiled myself and looked up the finale for season 4 and was blown away by the ending. I haven't seen season 4 yet, but can't wait for season 5 too

With Observe and Report, AND Star Trek on his list, and Moon not on his list...well, it shows that maybe he should stick to directing two movies a decade instead of trying to kick start a film critic career.

Nice to see Funny People and Observe and Report get some love. Both had serious flaws but altogether ambitious in their own right.

I am disheartened to see the abominable Precious on the list, and the lackluster Observe and Report, and I haven't seen Up In The Air yet, but overall, pretty decent.

Now the main thing I have issues with is that it's a top eight rather than top ten... I haven't seen half the movies on that list. But the ones I have were pretty sweet. Looks like he's a Seth Rogan fan.

Solid list, aside from Precious which I didn't really like at all. Star Trek has been growing on me.

Awesome List
Although I haven't seen Precious, Chocolate, An Education or Up In The Air. I think he picked some good ones. Fuck whoever didn't like Observe and Report, if Quentin Tarantino likes it, than you are wrong!

I think the list is terrible. Despite only having 8 movies, 5 of them are on my list of the ten worst of '09. His top three for the year are actually a perfect matchup to by bottom three of the year.

Maybe I should consider changing my name to NOTQUENTIN.
