Tarsem drops Constantine

Jan. 17, 2002by: Mike Sampson

Director Tarsem (THE CELL) has dropped out of Warner Bros. film CONSTANTINE due to budgetary disagreements with the studio.  The film, based on the DC comic "Hellblazer" was to star Nicolas Cage and be released around the Holiday 2002 season.  There was been no official word from the studio as to whether Cage is still attached or whether the movie is still going ahead at all.  This isn't the first time Tarsem has had issues with the studio over budget.  While talking to Coming Attractions about THE CELL, the director said, "Nobody ever had a big enough budget...I complained and complained until the end."  Stay tuned to see how Nicolas Cage's quest to star in a comic-book film progresses.
