Tatum’s next iced

Phil Carlo's book's cover

Good news and bad news these days for Channing Tatum: Lots of people liked GI JOE so he’ll be able to request top dollars on his next film, but his next film won’t be the anticipated biopic of vicious hit man Richard Kuklinsk called THE ICE MAN. That film is dead as Dillinger, and Tatum himself has something to do with it.

Talking to the New York Post, author Phil Carlo, who wrote the book on which the film was being based, claims he pulled the plug on the project indefinitely, after Producer Lorenzo di Bonavetura’s option on the book had expired. Pleas for extension while looking to secure financing left Carlo quite cold, mostly because of the casting choice.

I had to turn him down. I really hated the idea of Channing Tatum.” the writer confessed. “I told di Bonaventura that this is not the guy to play one of the most feared killers of the 20th Century. I think Mickey Rourke would really be good.” Tatum DID play Pretty Boy Floyd in PUBLIC ENEMIES, but Duke probably has much more weight…

The actor surely won’t lose much sleep over it. He’s got piles of money coming in with the quasi-assured JOE sequel, in addition to 4 upcoming movies already in the can and 4 more already being prepped.
