Taylor Swift lends her voice to The Lorax

In DESPICABLE ME, Universal and Illumination relied on teen superstar Miranda Cosgrove to voice the film and help market to the young audience. For their upcoming animated film THE LORAX, based off Dr. Suess’ classic book, they’ll be relying on Taylor Swift for the same role.

The singer has signed on to lend her voice to the project, joining a cast that includes Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, Zac Efron, Rob Riggle and Betty White. Whether Swift’s deal includes singing original music for the soundtrack isn’t clear at this point but I kinda have to think they didn’t just bring her on-board for her acting (her only previous big-screen role was in VALENTINE’S DAY, which, guess what?, featured a new Taylor Swift song on the soundtrack).

Swift will star as Audrey (seen above), the love interest of Ted (Efron) who is searching for The Lorax. Danny DeVito will lend his vocal talents to the iconic title character of the Lorax, while Ed Helms will voice the enigmatic Once-ler. Rob Riggle will play financial king O’Hare, and beloved actress Betty White has signed on to portray Ted’s wise Grammy Norma.

THE LORAX will hit theaters on March 2, 2012 in 3D.
