Teaser poster and more new images for The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer

Looks like this is the week for THE LONE RANGER, as Disney has been doing a staggered release of official promotional material, starting with the new stills we showed yesterday.  Now, we have the first teaser poster (as I'm sure there will be more to follow) and three more images from the upcoming Jerry Bruckheimer-produced pic.  Armie Hammer will debut the trailer on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight with the wide release set for Wednesday morning on Apple.

The teaser poster is pretty cool and it's obvious they are playing up Depp's role as Tonto.  Director Gore Verbinski has said that the story is narrated by Tonto and told from his perspective, which is a first for the long-standing characters. I think it's a cool angle and, honestly, the smart move by Disney, as Depp has more drawing power than Hammer at this point.

Keep the Mask on:

THE LONE RANGER starring Armie Hammer, Johnny Depp, James Badge Dale, Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Wilkinson, Barry Pepper, William Fichtner, and Ruth Wilson hits the theatrical trail on July 3, 2013.

Glad to see people are coming around to this. I remember a few months back there was an initial backlash over Tonto's appearance. But, in all honesty, this is Depp and Verbinski so I don't see how this could turn out any less than highly entertaining. I hope Depp sticks with Verbinski over Burton. Maybe that will give both of them (depp and burton) room to find some inspiration again.

I have to admit, that is an awesome poster. I was mostly expecting the ol' floating heads of characters a la Pirates of the Caribbean. Very clever. Also funny how the focus is clearly on Mr. Sparrow himself. Figures.

Poor Armie Hammer. The movie is called the Lone Ranger and the tag line says "never take off the mask", but who"s face do they show? I know Depp is more of a selling point, but seriously have "The Lone Ranger" in there some where. And in the second picture Depp is clearly doing a "Cap'n Jack" look, right?

Depp on that poster looks a lot like Planet of the Apes there.

Depp is always getting placed on posters for which he is a supporting character. i.e. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland. Not saying he shouldn't be on the poster, it's just funny how he is always more of a selling point than the main star.

I'm not a fan of Depp's recent movies, but the poster is pretty cool!
