Teaser poster, concept art, and a score sample from Bong Joon-Ho’s Snowpiercer, starring Chris Evans

As we head into 2013 a number of films are going to start popping up on our radar, many of which we’ve only heard a few things about.  Case in point is Korean director Bong Joon-Ho’s SNOWPIERCER, starring Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris, Octavia Spencer, and Allison Pill, which is an adaptation of the French graphic novel.  The folks at The Film Stage dug up some really cool stuff, including concept art and a score snippet from composer Marco Beltrami.  The official teaser poster was released recently as well, which really just confirmed the tittle and cast.

Having seen Bong’s “monster” hit movie THE HOST, I’m intrigued to see what he brings to SNOWPIERCER, described as a second ice-age apocalypse, which “revolves around a train traveling in an endless circle, filled with the remnants of humanity after a devastating war and glaciation. The temperature is -80 degrees outside, but inside is a microcosm of humanity with different political and social structures.”

The movie feels like it will be a compelling character piece, looking at the despair of humanity in the wake of an apocalypse, which Joon-Ho elaborated on in an interview with Yonhap News Agency, saying,“But the spectacle is not what I really want to show. The mood and sentiment you can feel inside the train, the desperateness. The exterior should be only groundwork to show all that.”

SNOWPIERCER has been picked up by the Weinstein company for release later in 2013.  Expect an announcement shortly.
