Teaser poster for HBO's Game of Thrones season three announces the premiere date

Nov. 14, 2012by: Paul Shirey

As we slowly settle into winter and the folks over in Westeros prophecise its return, we now have a solid premiere date to mark our calendars and a teaser poster for the third season of the hit show on HBO.  Based on the "Song of Ice and Fire" novels by author George R.R. Martin, the fantasy series follows a series of characters emblazoned in the battle for the throne of the fictional realm of Westeros, where sex, violence, and betrayal are used in every possible way to secure their footing.

The third season is splitting the third book in the series, A Storm of Swords, into two seasons, and there's much to be excited about for that.  The amount of jaw-dropping events that transpire is enough to warrant as much time as possible and I'm beyond stoked to see it all unfold.  Fans of the series will know the events I speak of, but for those that don't, avoid spoilers at all costs.

Here's the poster:

Season three is currently filming with the surviving castmembers returning to their previous roles.  Besides being a big fan of the books, I love that Game of Thrones follows the adaptations closely, rather than changing things up almost completely like AMC's The Walking Dead does.  They are both strong shows, but in terms of integrity to the material, Game of Thrones has the edge.

HBO's Game of Thrones season three premieres on March 31, 2013.

Winter has a date

I cannot wait. I just started reading the series of books. It's good to know I'm not the only one that sings along to the theme.

Seriously, everybody, do yourself a favor and read the books, as good as the show is, the books are just that much better. And A storm of swords is easily the best book, these next few seasons will be epic, as long as they have the budget to do it justice.

Love the books and I love the show. I am extremely excited for this but perhaps more excited for the eventual release of the next book whenever that is.

A bit disappointing we have to wait so long for it to return, but I eagerly anticipate it. Haven't read the books, but I love the show. In regards to it being a faithful adaptation versus Walking Dead, I'm not sure GoT has the same luxury. As much as I understand the books, they have a fairly linear progression with a fairly straight story. If the show were to change the events that happened, they would most likely have to change other story elements that would stray away from the core of the

So, it seems to me that GoT doesn't have the same liberties that a show like Walking Dead has.

I've read all the GOT books and all Walking Dead. GOT could easily change anything they want. In truth, they've so very similar in terms of shocking deaths, etc. Producers can change whatever they want in any story to suit their needs...thankfully, GOT is more concerned with telling the tale that was set forth, rather than making an all new one for the TV venue.
