Teaser poster for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides rears its boney mug

Nov. 15, 2010by: George Merchan

The latest entry in the swash-buckling fantasy adventure franchise, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, now has a teaser poster, and it's about what you'd come to expect from a POTC one sheet: a decorative skull, a couple of blades... and perhaps even some clues as to what we might see in the fourth film? (Don't hold me to that, I'm just speculating.)

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES - starring Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Geoffrey Rush, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Sam Claflin, and Kevin McNally - opens May 20, 2011.

Synopsis: In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love—or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

All the POTC teasers start off like this, every single one of them so don't act surprised. That being said, i like it. I love POTCs and this one's intriguing with it being metallic.

Poster is ok, I guess....

....but the 3D thing killed it. Stop with the 3D, already!

Almost exactly the same, but...

... with small differences. The skull was already used in teaser posters for the first and second films. In this one, the hair extensions are on opposite sides - blah - but it's also metallic and features Captain Jack's beard. "That's interesting."

Still not much of an attention-grabber at this stage.

Jack Is Back.

Hey say whatever you want, the Pirates franchise is cool, fun, and a great way to spend a summer day at the cinema with a bucket of popcorn and Coke. Plus, it's Jack Sparrow, who's always a treat to watch. I'm hyped! Summer 2011 here I come, baby!

bleh.

Hello, incredibly boring poster!

Hmmm...clues to the fourth film? Well, the skull does look kind of metalic...I've got it! In the fourth film, Jack Sparrow and John Connor will square off against a fleet of T1000s. CGI-Arnie cameo? You bet.

I think the poster is pretty cool looking. Call me crazy, but looking at the poster are we to assume Jack dies in this one. Maybe for good?

"Arrrr...me matey, the fountain of youth will turn ye' bones int'a Adamantium!"

Loved the first 3...gonna see this one also. Depp is just too much of a pimp to pass it up. haha.

Nothing against the movie here (although I am very much against), but this teaser poster sucks. It's so cliche for the series, and brings nothing new or fresh to it. Is this how they're going to get me excited for this film? They're failing then.

I'm excited at the prospect of the series redemption after the last 2. Plus since it's partially based on a book, I figure it has potential. I'm not expecting it to blow the first film out of the water but I have high hopes that it could be a solid second best.

With the exception of the casting choice for the "Woman from Jack's past" I am really hoping this makes up for the disappointment that was part 3. I'm a big fan of Ian McShane and I am excited to see his portrayal of Blackbeard.
