Teaser trailer for Princess Di biopic Diana puts Naomi Watts in the spotlight

Jun. 12, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Director Oliver Hirschbiegel (DOWNFALL) is bringing the life of Princess Diana, aka Diana Spencer, to the big screen in the new biopic DIANA, starring Naomi Watts as the late Princess of Wales and today we have a look at the first teaser for the film. Princess Di, as she was called, is known as the "most photographed woman in the world," which is highlighted significantly in the teaser and is something that would follow her to her death in 1997 in a tragic car accident. I'm not sure how well a Princess Di movie will do, but Watts is a fine actress to fill the role and I have no doubt that, if anything, her performance will elevate the film.

Take a look:

Here's the synopsis:

The last two years of Princess Diana's life: her campaign against land mines and her relationship with surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan.

DIANA, starring Naomi Watts and Naveen Andrews, is set to open on September 20, 2013 in the U.K., with a U.S. release yet to be announced.

Extra Tidbit: Naveen Andrews will always be Sayid from Lost to me.

Looks like a crappy by the numbers biopic.... Where is she running to? Our hearts, obviously.

I love Naomi Watts. Her performance will be great, she's always awesome. Hopefully the rest of the movie follows suit.

I love a good biopic like the next person but I can't stand these types of glossy, cookie cutter ones. You can see that the people involved with this project loved princess Diana but that they were also terrified to do something out of the ordinary for this picture. I'm not saying it's gonna suck, just that it probably won't stand out in anyway.

She will definitely be nominated for Best Actress of next Oscar, that's for sure.

History has proven that if you play a member of the British Monarchy/Government, it's almost a guaranteed Oscar win or at least a nomination. Helen Mirren as the Queen, Colin Firth as King George VI and Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher.

I look forward to seeing Watts' performance in this. I just hope that it isn't too Oscar bait-y.
