What the hell is happening with TERMINATOR?
Halcyon Holding Group, the company who currently holds the rights to the franchise expect to close the auction on February 1, 2010. Back in November, we brought news that Halcyon was in some serious debt after making the TERMINATOR SALVATION game. In enough debt, that they decided to auction off all the rights to the highest bidder.
The company has released an update on their current status: "Over the past few weeks, Halcyon and its professionals have engaged in in-depth discussions and negotiations with numerous serious potential buyers, including several major movie studios. In addition, a number of attractive refinancing alternatives have also been presented. In order to maximize the value of a transaction for all of the company's creditors and stakeholders, we are fully analyzing all these options." Fancy. In other words, they want a decent chunk of change, even though they bought it for only $25MM. It would be nice if they didn't just give it to any jackass that puts up the most money. But business is business, I suppose.
Originally, Halcyon said that by November 20th, they would set the minimum bid for TERMINATOR assets, which includes future films, television series, DVDs, and merchandise. However last Thursday, they said that it would not be a part of the process.

Extra Tidbit: I may be wrong, as this is an assumption, but I really get this feeling that James Cameron doesn't want the rights.

What the hell happened to that?
I hope McG does another one.
I hope Paul WS Anderson's name never gets mentioned.

And what's with all the wankers asking "Do we really need another Terminator?" Well you know what? Did we really need another fucking Spiderman, Indiana Jones or Rush Hour?
We dont NEED sequels, but if there is a good idea on the page why the fuck not?

Seriously - what are you thinking?

If they are really trying to sell the franchise, a new director should definately take over and follow up. Christian bale is perfect as John Connor. I don't want him being replaced.

John Connor repelling down a massive hundred foot deep silo and then somehow climbs his way out. How about Connor's team that he leaves in the bottom of the silo mysteriously all dying and we never hear of them again or find out how? Wtf happened to them? The people "above ground" were all killed too but wtf happened to the guys below? Jumping out of a helicopter thousands of feet in the air into a gigantic sea storm and then mysteriously ending up IN A SUBMARINE?! Common asking about his dead brother while Connor says he doesn't make it.. yet WE'RE NEVER INTRODUCED TO HIM.
my head hurts.

Unless Joss Whedon picks it up. Which I'm kinda hoping he won't. He was great on Firefly and Serenity, but I think he's too much of a "light" director. "The Terminator" needs a more gritty director, like Carnahan, McTiernan or even Tony Scott.

The last film was a flop and not many people liked it.
I think a studio might see it as an investment for the future, but I would love it if Joss Whedon bought the rights, and makes the film from his email lol.
