Terminator fate update

12.04.2009

What the hell is happening with TERMINATOR?

Halcyon Holding Group, the company who currently holds the rights to the franchise expect to close the auction on February 1, 2010. Back in November, we brought news that Halcyon was in some serious debt after making the TERMINATOR SALVATION game. In enough debt, that they decided to auction off all the rights to the highest bidder.

The company has released an update on their current status: "Over the past few weeks, Halcyon and its professionals have engaged in in-depth discussions and negotiations with numerous serious potential buyers, including several major movie studios. In addition, a number of attractive refinancing alternatives have also been presented. In order to maximize the value of a transaction for all of the company's creditors and stakeholders, we are fully analyzing all these options." Fancy. In other words, they want a decent chunk of change, even though they bought it for only $25MM. It would be nice if they didn't just give it to any jackass that puts up the most money. But business is business, I suppose.

Originally, Halcyon said that by November 20th, they would set the minimum bid for TERMINATOR assets, which includes future films, television series, DVDs, and merchandise. However last Thursday, they said that it would not be a part of the process.

Extra Tidbit: I may be wrong, as this is an assumption, but I really get this feeling that James Cameron doesn't want the rights.

Maybe they wouldn't be in so much debt if the game didn't blow so much ass. I rarely put a video game down, but I sure as shit put the Terminator Salvation game down. Fuck that game.

hmm

I was really excited to hear McG say he had already planned the 5th film and had ideas about the T-1000 Robert Patrick thing.

What the hell happened to that?

I hope McG does another one.

I hope Paul WS Anderson's name never gets mentioned.

And what's with all the wankers asking "Do we really need another Terminator?" Well you know what? Did we really need another fucking Spiderman, Indiana Jones or Rush Hour?

We dont NEED sequels, but if there is a good idea on the page why

Rohan, I agree ...

I like all 4 movies, and I enjoyed the TV series. I don't see any reason not to move forward with new owners.

What's so hard about letting this franchise die? It made 126 million domestically on an estimated budget of 200 million dollars. Clearly it wasn't received well and most of the fans are split. It's time to let it go.

Nah, Cameron won't return. He told the story he wanted to tell (said so in a interview when T3 came out).
How would JJ Abrams do it?

Give the rights to lionsgate and they will make a gory R-rated sequel.

In Cameron's eyes, T2 is the ending to the series. I don't want to get into 'things not making sense' in the Terminator series considering there's time travel and all that. But by the movies logic it makes no sense for the story to continue considering what happens at the end of T2.

I think Terminator should just be DONE! Ever since James Cameron left it hasn't been the same, and I don't want another subpar film like Salvation to be released.

I like them all

All the TERMINATOR movies are awesome. Yes, T-Salvation is a good movie. I think the story got more darker and darker. Well made action movie. And it's not entertaining other people I don't know what's the problem.

I think you should on writing the next film for Terminator franchise and please don't watch the BEYONCE videos cause McG will be taking over the videos.

Seriously - what are you thinking?

If they are really trying to sell the franchise, a new director should definately take over and follow up. Christian bale is perfect as John Connor. I don't want him being replaced.

Never

Cameron will never return to Terminator. He probably thinks he's too good to go back to such a worn-out franchise . Avatar is gonna be awesome though, the 3d will change all the haters' minds.

I absolutely loved Terminator Salvation and thought it was a phenomenal film with a strong story which furthered the progression rather than stagnate it like T3 did, compelling characters and stellar performances as well as some very intense action. It was the next logical step in the franchise and I enjoyed seeing many of the things referred to in the first two Terminator films in action and many things which were set up in those films being paid off this time around. Christian Bale did a great job--I suppose surviving the things John Connor did and becoming a fighter in a post apocalyptic world is supposed to render him weak and pathetic, wandering around in sandals and a silky white robe in a big field of flowers. The haters are self contradictory and don't seem to have paid attention.

Terminator Salvation was a massive failure in the writing and directing department. McG should either resort to Beyonce videos or nothing at all. The plotholes in that movie were out of control.. just to name a few:

John Connor repelling down a massive hundred foot deep silo and then somehow climbs his way out. How about Connor's team that he leaves in the bottom of the silo mysteriously all dying and we never hear of them again or find out how? Wtf happened to them? The people "above

How about Connor's team that he leaves in the bottom of the silo mysteriously all dying and we never hear of them again or find out how? Wtf happened to them? The people "above ground" were all killed too but wtf happened to the guys below? Jumping out of a helicopter thousands of feet in the air into a gigantic sea storm and then mysteriously ending up IN A SUBMARINE?! Common asking about his dead brother while Connor says he doesn't make it.. yet WE'RE NEVER INTRODUCED TO HIM.

my head hurts.

if you don't see anything wrong with any of the scenes I pointed out then you're exactly who this movie/Transformers 2 was marketed to. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Maybe...

Ridley Scott can try his hand at it. A little quid pro quo for Cameron's 'Aliens'

James Cameron should buy "The Terminator" rights for a fraction of the fortune he'll make from "Avatar" and put the franchise to rest. Hopefully.
Unless Joss Whedon picks it up. Which I'm kinda hoping he won't. He was great on Firefly and Serenity, but I think he's too much of a "light" director. "The Terminator" needs a more gritty director, like Carnahan, McTiernan or even Tony Scott.

hmmm. It's a tough one.

I can't see studios wanting to spend a lot of money on the rights.
The last film was a flop and not many people liked it.
I think a studio might see it as an investment for the future, but I would love it if Joss Whedon bought the rights, and makes the film from his email lol.
