Terminator: Genisys rated 12A in the UK; PG-13 imminent?

I know how much you all love hearing about the upcoming TERMINATOR: GENISYS, whether it be spoiled plot points (there are none in this article, so relax) or James Cameron's reaction to the film (definitely filled with spoilers), so here's some news that will probably surprise absolutely no one. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has just rated the film a 12A for "moderate threat, violence, and infrequent strong language." For those of you who haven't brushed up on your BBFC certifications, that means that any child under 12 has to be accompanied by an adult. The MPAA has yet to deliver it's rating for the film, but we sure as shit have something comparable: PG-13.

We've heard rumors about a PG-13 TERMINATOR since the film's inception, and even leading man Jai Courtney stated that there were no F-bombs or anything else to indicate this movie might be rated R. We could argue that a PG-13 rating didn't help franchises such as THE EXPENDABLES, but I'd also argue that an R-rating didn't help TERMINATOR 3 either.

In any case, it looks like TERMINATOR: GENISYS is definitely looking to appeal to a wide audience that didn't necessarily grow up with the original TERMINATOR films (you'd be surprised). I don't know if GENISYS is capable of making HUNGER GAMES money, but we haven't heard yet if there will be awkward love triangle between Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, and an old Arnold Schwarzenegger. I just threw up in my mouth a little.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS will open on July 1, 2015.

An R-rating could've aided in getting people interested in this film. The studio fucked that up, along with many other things.

If the studio really wanted to show to the fans of the Terminator franchise that this film could end being really good, then they should've pushed for an R-rating.
I remember years ago, when Live Free Or Die Hard was announced as a PG-13 release, at the time most people brushed it off as a "Oh well, just this once". I knew full well this would end up being the result. Classic R-rated blockbuster hit franchises suddenly sacrificing their violence and profanity for PG-13. Not that I need

Not that I need violence, but in films like Die Hard and Terminator the violence always adds a "wow factor" to these films. The violence and profanity is not a bonus feature it's a character all on it's own!

Well well...

It's good to see after all these years the Terminator can be classified as nothing more than a "moderate threat".

I've never understood the big deal about ratings, it doesn't matter to me if a movie is PG-13 or R. The Expendables 3 made the mistake of having the junior expendables, not the PG-13 rating. I'll still see this movie PG-13 or R. Plus the UK ratings system I am sure isn't as hokey as the US joke of the MPAA system.

The BBFC mainly has a stick up its arse about "sexualised violence", so this movie was never in any real danger of being censored. However, the fact that it passed uncut with a 12A rating means it's fairly tame. The 12A is, as the article suggest, our equivalent of the PG-13.

This isn't really a Terminator movie, so why would it be rated R.

Of course it is going to be PG-13

Welcome to 2015 people where PG-13 is the requirement these days in order to make money. In order for something to be Rated R it has to be something that isn't known and mostly not a Sequel.

Come with me if you want to forget this shit

Right so can someone explain a few things
Firstly Sarah Connor and the t-800 have killed that terminator therefore she knows from a young age about the future and assumedly that avoiding actually having a child will prevent it, therefore how are they gonna explain the Reece connection?
Secondly assuming this takes place in the same time as T2 why the hell doesn't it look like the 80's and why does Connor like about 15?
Thirdly why does Reece look much bigger than the Reece of 1984?

The whole problem of this film revolves around the fact you piss around with time travel too much it leaves too many plot holes and unanswered questions. For me the Terminator franchise ended after number 2, this film will be utter convoluted shit. The whole premise makes me sick that they are essentially recycling a plot that has already been used. I also find it insulting that the rating just completely obliterates any true homage to the originals. Everything now is so fucking safe, perhaps spending less on shitty CGI post production and on unnecessary marketing may mean films wouldn't have such high original costs and be so dependant on making their money back

well Optimus...

firstly, Kyle Reese is sent back from a timeline where Sarah Conner hasn't killed the T-800. or she did, but still failed to stop Judgement Day. it's the exact same scenario as the original movies. Kyle Reese is always from a timeline where the Terminators take over (hence the war) and he goes back to create an alternate future. the REAL question is, now that Sarah Conner doesn't need Kyle Reese to save her, how will she fall in love with him?

secondly, T2 doesn't look

oh great that's just great

More astounding acting from Emilia Clarke in that clip. What a joke. Who wrote that line anyway? What does it even mean? It actually IS great that he's knocked out because he isn't shooting at old man Terminator like she wanted. What the hell is happening?

Does it honestly matter? Arnie face plants a helicopter, this isn't a "Terminator" movie.

This movie looks like complete crap. I don't know why anyone would want to see it. The production looks cheap and the story doesn't follow the original storyline, which made the first 2 so good. At this point I don't care if it's rated R because it will suck either way. I've seen what movies are like when producers and filmmakers want to walk the line of an indecision of being PG-13 or R rating. The movie always sucks because if it does get an R rating the filler added to the movie to make it

The movie always sucks because if it does get an R rating the filler added to the movie to make it an R is usually fake and has no real connection with the movie itself. For instance CGI blood or f bombs is just fluff whereas showing a villain violently kill a person(s) paints the villain in a necessary light to portray why he has to be stopped. You can't just be told a person is bad or the protagonist's heroic skills are good in a movie, you have to show it. The movie looks bad and any rating isn't going to change the quality.

Bloody 12A. Can't believe it, should of been expected though the way they do things now. A 15 rating would of been acceptable.

LAME

I was hoping for an R they said this would of been and R and return to the roots. W/e just as long as it doesn't suck.

ya it was Megan Ellison who said that and she 100% would have done it. But during the pre production producing credit and role moved over to her brother while she no longer had anything to do with it. If Megan Ellison was full on producing this. We would have had an hardcore R rated hit on our hands
