Terrence Malick's Tree of Life finally has a poster and official synopis

Nov. 3, 2010by: Niki Stephens

It's good to finally get some new stuff from THE TREE OF LIFE.

You know what isn't so good? This poster. Maybe I expected too much? Or maybe it's just that the house sticks out like a sore thumb. If I cover up the house, I like the poster.

Collider is over at the American Film Market and managed to get a shot of this poster as well as the synopsis.

I just want to see this already. TREE OF LIFE is due out May 27, 2011.

Here's the synopsis:

From the Desk of Terrence Malick….

"We trace the evolution of an eleven-year-old boy in the Midwest, JACK, one of three brothers. At first all seems marvelous to the child. He sees as his mother does with the eyes of his soul. She represents the way of love and mercy, where the father tries to teach his son the world’s way of putting oneself first. Each parent contends for his allegiance, and Jack must reconcile their claims. The picture darkens as he has his first glimpses of sickness, suffering and death. The world, once a thing of glory, becomes a labyrinth."

"From this story is that of adult Jack, a lost soul in a modern world, seeking to discover amid the changing scenes of time that which does not change: the eternal scheme of which we are a part. When he sees all that has gone into our world’s preparation, each thing appears a miracle—precious, incomparable. Jack, with his new understanding, is able to forgive his father and take his first steps on the path of life."

"The story ends in hope, acknowledging the beauty and joy in all things, in the everyday and above all in the family—our first school—the only place that most of us learn the truth about the world and ourselves, or discover life’s single most important lesson, of unselfish love."

Extra Tidbit: In the film, Brad Pitt plays Sean Penn's Dad. I guess Penn got his looks from his Mom, who is played by Jessica Chastain.

Malick is always worth my time. Badlands is this mans best if you're not familiar with him. Opening day on this one.

I still have no idea what the hell this film is about, and I am not terribly impressed with the poster. I'd like a solid plot line here, because so far this sounds like more art house, oscar bait. I'll wait for a trailer.

Cool!

Penn's an amazing two-time Oscar winner with fantastic talent! This film sounds like it suits him well and that it will be awesome.

Wow I really don't give a fuck about how they have the need to tell "the story ends in hope..." thankfully thats when I stopped reading. Who fucking writes these up? Why can't they just write a "summary" without having the need to paraphrase each of the three Acts. Had to rant on this, that's the beef I have with the summary, as for the film and the poster I'm interested.

Glad this movie is finally getting a release. However, I don't think the start of Summer Blockbuster season is a good time to release this film. Definitely feels like a winter/award season release.

It feels as if this movie has been in production hell for years. From the hype and people involved, I think we got ourselves a winner.

Post-production is a long process with Terrence Malick. "Production hell" isnt a suitable expression here.
