The 16th Annual Golden Schmoes Nominees are announced!

Thanks to your nominations we have now compiled the final list of nominees for The 15th Annual JoBlo Movie Awards (aka The Golden Schmoes)! Final voting runs from Monday, February 6th through Wednesday, February 22nd, with winners to be announced on Friday, February 24th, just ahead of the Oscars

It shouldn't be too much of a surprise that DEADPOOL led the nominations this year with both ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY and CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR trailing behind. LA LA LAND was heavily favored as well, as was the highly underrated THE NICE GUYS, which got more nominations that I anticipated. ARRIVAL also got some solid recognition, bringing up the rear in terms of most-nominated from our audience.

No records were broken in terms of MOST nominations (which still belongs to Christopher Nolan's INCEPTION with 19 nominations), but some were obviously favored more than others (see the most-nominated below). The selections were well in line with the popular opinion of most cinephiles (or, at least, the Schmoe community) and included a bigger selection of the more popular films we enjoyed this year, rather than an overwhelming dose of "Oscar bait" as is the case with most other awards shows. Overall, it's a pretty fair and accurate reading of the collective JoBlo moviegoer, balancing the fanboy goods with the more "refined" fare that tends to snag golden trophies.
