The Adventures of Tintin loses its subtitle in first poster

May. 16, 2011by:

We've seen a few official shots from it, but now Steven Spielberg's THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN has its very own poster which you can see below.

What's most notable is that it appears that the movie has lost its subtitle, THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN. Whether this is to save space on the poster, or if it's a permanent change, I'm not sure, but I think actually it might be better if the film does away with it. Don't want a unicorn reference to scare away too many young boys I suppose, and I'm not sure what it really adds.

I am very curious to see how this film is going to go, as I loved the books as a child, but have been creeped out by every CGI mo-cap cartoon I've seen to date. Has Spielberg figured out a way to make it less unnerving? I'll have to see video to know for sure.

Check out the poster below, and see it bigger over at the Pimpin' Poster Palace.

UPDATE: Another poster via AICN

I think the reason why they removed the subtitle is that the movie will adapt several books, not only "the secret of the unicorn". In the trailer there's a plane crashing in a desert, but there's no such scene in "the secret of the unicorn"

i hope this turns out well because i loved the cartoons when i was little.

- and the reason motion capture looks creepy when used as a base for animated characters is because squash and stretch and cartoony stuff + real world physics just dont mesh well together. the motion capture makes you read the actions and character as human, but then the added animation of the cartoony parts and very often the unreal eyes, make the character read as dead, or not right.

luckly this can be fixed so

luckly this can be fixed so long as the animators add to or subtract from the motion capture part to help it to read more as animation then real human.

Looks good, looking forward to this.
Perhaps you American-centric people aren't, but the rest of the world is.
And to the tards whining about it looking like The Polar Express, just remember this was done in an entirely different way. Did the Navi look like dead eyed Tom Hanks'? Nope, why would these? Maybe Weta just forgot how to do it!!

Love the first poster...

Gives such a sense of mystery, adventure and dynamism that the comics always had.

Apparently the trailer will be out tomorrow?

yup. smart marketing move. with today's "box office", nothing is guaranteed - even though The Beard is at the helm.

Don't Like It

Poster does look cool, yes. But this movie? I hate this kind of animation. The polar express/chrostmas carol animation where they try to make everyone so ultra realistic looking. In that case, do a live-action flick. Not interested in this POS.

Not a huge fan of this type of animation either but with the names Steven Speilberg, Peter Jackson, AND Edgar Wright all on the poster, it's hard to not at least look a LITTLE forward to it. Some serious talent behind it.

Awesome

How can you go wrong with Spielberg, Jackson, Wright, Frost & Pegg!

3D and animation = No Issue
3D and Live Action = Fail

cool but

I'm still looking forward to Kung Fu Panda 2 more... BUT DON'T JUDGE MY COMMENT ON THAT... judge it on this...

AND THE OSCAR GOES TO... THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN!

...yeah, you know it's gonna happen. It just is, whether you like it or not.

2nd poster is way better

I'm not really familiar with the Tintin comics but given the huge names behind this project, I can't help but be excited

I wonder if Steven Moffat will cry big, sulky man-tears if advance reviews post spoilers in them or if he only does that with 'Doctor Who' fans?

I love the Tin Tin cartoon movies and I so wanna see this version. The stories and the world of Tin Tin were always so "real" that I have no problem with a CG-movie.

As a ten year old boy, one of my favorite films was (and remains) The Last Unicorn. But maybe I was atypical.

Cautiously optimistic about the film. Hope I can catch it in 2D, though.

I'm sure after the huge failure of Mars Needs Moms, they dropped the subtitle. If I was ten, I wouldn't wanna rush out to the 'The Secret of the Unicorn', sounds like a My Little Pony movie. Regardless, I see wanna see this and the poster's cool.

Why this movie will rule...

Steven Spielberg working with a real supporting cast of committed filmmakers. Edgar Wright, Peter Jackson, etc. etc. Not a David Koepp, Michael Bay, or other assorted hacks to be seen. This, True Grit (which he produced) and Super 8 may mean a return to Spielberg's 80s Amblin glory days

Its a Coen Brothers movie for sure, but there is definitely some Spielberg/Amblin influence there. Loved it.

Looks like "The polar Express". I would've preferred a poster in the style of the comic books. This looks too "high tech"...

Maybe they removed the subtitle cause they arent sure they'll make it a trilogy anymore. Let's face it, with Jackson busy making The Hobbits and Spielberg's 100 projects, they won't be able to make a sequel before 2014-15, time to shoot, over a year of post-prod, it'll come out in 2020.

That said, I like the poster. Looking forward to seeing it.

possible... or maybe they just ruined it because they thought THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN would turn off all the homophobes.
